"One More Midnight" Has It All
Review of One More Midnight - Hal Ketchum by nyghtbyrd

Advantages: Variety, Superior Material, Showmanship
Disadvantages: Will Country Radio Respond?

...The latest offering from Hal Ketchum is one of his best. Top songcrafting and performance have always been Ketchum hallmarks, sometimes at the expense of commercial viability. As an artist Ketchum has always felt free to share his influences, from blues and R&B to folk to thundering rock licks. This time, he's got it all---there are several prospects for hit singles on this CD. "The Alamo," ("That's a pretty good place to make a stand") released in the US as a duet with LeAnn Rimes, has tons of potential to become a country classic. The title track is already a line dance favorite, even prior to its official US release. "Save Tonight For Me" and "Moment" are power ballads that showcase Ketchum's vocal abilities, though "Travelin" Teardrop Blues" in its seemingly laid back, easy style is no less dynamic. The centerpiece of this disc... Read review

Texan great.
Review of One Step At A Time - George Strait by rockrebel

Advantages: Great country and western music
Disadvantages: None

.... The songs on this particular C.D I would probably think may not be the best he’s ever done, but never the less I’ve listened to them over and over again and they have grown on me. I particularly like to listen to George when I am alone, when the guitars and his creamy rich voice de-stresses me and set me up again to face life’s traumas. And so to ‘One step at a time’, a ten track album. 1. I just want to dance with you. 2. One step at a time. 3. True 4. Remember the Alamo. 5. Maria. 6. We really shouldn’t be doing this. 7. Why not now. 8. That’s the breaks. 9. Neon row 10. You haven’t left me yet. My favourites.. At three. I just want to dance with you. (Roger Cook, John Prine) A song that moves... Read review

Praise The Lord and Pass The Ammunition
Review of Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads, The - Lift To Experience by mikeydred

Advantages: Absolutely Stunning Guitar based debut
Disadvantages: Requires concentration and committment

...;. There is a vague concept of Armageddon and the final stand being in Texas (The Alamo, Waco anyone?). Pearson’s voice is almost angelic , but many of the lyrics are spoken rather than sung over some very impressive soundscapes generated by Pearson’s awesome guitar playing, backed by a n almost telepathic rhythm section. There are times where it sound like Hendrix, but this is music for this millennium and occupies the sort of territories only hinted by Radiohead in some of their more extreme moments. “Texas” contains six songs and “Jerusalem” five although the closer “Into the Storm” contains a hidden track fifteen minutes after the noise has died down. The band have been affected severely by their religious upbringing but it has resulted in the must stunning album of the millennium so far. It’s... Read review
