Review of Tales Of Mystery And Imagination - Alan Parsons Project (The) by rowemg

Advantages: first side is very good
Disadvantages: second side can be a bit tedious

...The alan parson project is a collection of musicians that changes not only on each album but on each track as well. They have only Alan parsons production and leadership in common. As such some of the albums are a bit disjointed and this is true to that. The album is based on the edgar allen poe stories and each track is related to a particular story. The best track is the raven which uses a voice controlled synth and gets inside your head. The musicians on the album vary as I said but John Miles appears on a couple of tracks and is his usual classy self (he did the single Music in the eighties). The second side gets far more classical and a little overdone. A good album and worth a listen. If you like it try the other albums as he has a certain ability in the studio (he produced dark side of the mmon as well!!!)... Read review

Review of Distressed Gentlefolk - Jazz Butcher Conspiracy (The) by earlofaldgate

Advantages: nothing special (the song)
Disadvantages: couple of patchy songs

...Alan McGee and a number of people in France, America and The Music Business have called this one a "classic album". I would disagree, i find it patchy but when its good its good. For those not in the know, the jazz butcher, pat fish & max eider, have been churning out records for 23 years now starting with the jumbled but amusing mess of bath in bacon & now have 4 or 5 compilatin albums out.The early records are very hard to find, especially on glass.Alan mcgee was a fan , he signed them, they dont make enough money, he loses them. the musical style is difficult to define, theyre a bit of everything really. If you have broad musical taste & are open minded there will be a song for you somewhere on his albums. I found Distressed gentlefolk in 1989 the day after seeing him perform for the first time, luckily on glass label, but when i got... Read review

Leave That Android Alone Alan
Review of Take Me To Your Leader - Hawkwind by Champ666

Advantages: A reasonably good return to form
Disadvantages: Mathew Wright!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...musician of the year Jez Huggett (Sax, trumpet and Flute) and James Clemas (Organ). The quality of the guests is in exceptional with the only one causing concern being Mathew Wright. Those of us that remember their dalliances with Sam Fox on their cover of the Stones "Gimme Shelter" is enough to cause concern, and her vocal on "Master of the Universe" at their 30th anniversary show, still opens a gaping wound that cuts much deeper than Nik Turners awful performance on the same night, but one is willing to forgive and forget. The album kicks off with a new version of the classic "Spirit of the Age" featuring Mathew Wright on vocals. They have done a fair bit to update this one still keeping with the original ambient soundscape set to Robert Calvert's poem, about problems with androids in deep space. I have to say the Mathew does a not too bad... Read review
