Advantages: Incredibly moving swansong for my fave band ever Disadvantages: Faith No More are No More
This was it, the final in a gripping instalment of challenging and satisfyingly diverse albums released by this incredible band of gifted musicians.
Faith No More were never a band to follow trends, but they did always grow with their audience. If 'The Real Thing' was for the teens, 'Angel Dust' for the smart twenty-somethings, and 'King for a day...' for a more mature age-group again, then this is the middle-age Faith No More. That is, incredibly ... ...an ear for timeless music. A year after this, the band called it a day, and their ilk will not be heard of again.
They were a unique band in that, unlike a lot of bands today who chase fame and notoriety, FNM were classically-trained musicians, death metal fans, thrash fans, pop music fans, visionaries and masters of their instruments thrown together. They didn't fit the 'friends in a band' mould, because they weren't friends. Well, maybe the founder ...

Loosing my Faith Review ofAlbum Of The Year - Faith No Moreby
yhwman
Advantages: Mainly great songs Disadvantages: A few bad ones and it's the last album!
...rocky way to start the album off, Patton in fine growling form for the chorus’s backed up by huge guitars whereas the verses are backed by a synth and lead by a funky bass riff. There’s even section with some random CB chat the band just turned on a radio and recorded. Top stuff.

Faith No More delve into the world of electronica for this rather unexpected track. Vocally this was Patton’s strongest album and it ... ...the right things. It’s hard to describe, really it is! It’s a bit like a calmer version of Paths of Glory and a great way to finish the album off.
So – is Album of the Year a fitting farewell to Faith No More? Yeah, I reckon so. ...

Advantages: Great tracks, great musicians, different Disadvantages: Couple of tracks missing, with some that could be replaced
...It's rare to discover a truly unique band AFTER they've split. Sure, you can hear songs on the radio of current artists, and get into them then, or even hear rediscover an artist years later, but not find a brand new one after the event. Yet this is what happened with me and Faith No More. A friend of mine is a big fan, and after hearing a few albums worth of tracks I decided I really liked what I heard. So that's why I bought this greatest hits album.
"They were unique. Without peerage. Exceptionally creative. And weird."
This is how the inlay describes Faith No More, a band who, over the course of their 16 year history between 1982 and 1998 had a variety of members, all with two things in common – they were great at what they did, and, more importantly, were more than a little strange. Over this time, they released a grand...

Advantages: Masters of teh mixed metaphor Disadvantages: None Really
...I have been listening to this album again after a few years and I just forgot how good and groundbreaking it actually was.
This was the 4th Faith No MoreAlbum and the 2nd with Mike Patton as a vocalist. Between this and the previous album (The Real Thing), Mike Patton has gotten his other Band (Mr Bungle) a record deal and they had released a monstrous schizophrenic debut album, covering a wide range of musical styles (Ska, Funk, Metal, Death Metal) often within the same song. I remember being quite amazed at a party where I put the Mr Bungle album on and only being told to turn it off halfway through, lyrically the Mr Bungle album was diverse as well covering everything from food fetishism to the death of a puppy.
Why have I said so much about the Mr Bungle album isn't this a Faith No More review? Well in order to understand...

Advantages: will lead to enlightenment Disadvantages: songs will probably get stuch in your head
...Colour it in has rekindled my faith in new music and more importantly new albums, so many indie bands in the last few years have failed to produce a great album after capturing the public with a catchy single. But the maccabees are different, infact very different as all of their catchy singles were pretty much ignored! But let us not continue with that dreadfull oversight, there isn't one track on this album witch will have you reaching for the skip button, stonkin rockers like 'latchmere' and 'x-ray' will have you dancing like a nutter, whilst thoughtful, edgy songs like 'lego' and 'precious time' will cowering in the corner hiding under your fringe (actually could well still be dancing like a nutter).
The band uses lucid yet sharp guitar licks with exiting rhythm changes to keep you on your toes whilst wavering vocals sing some...

Album Reviews: Spin (8/97, pp.114-115) - 7 (out of 10) - \"...This is one of the few rock'n'roll bands that can drive through a soul-flavored song without sounding either sappy or mannered....In 1997, Faith No More may be to aging alt-rock dudes what Jefferson Starship were to those same dudes' parents. Fetch me the Geritol, honey...it's time to dance.\"
