almost exclusively for its title track: an epic 18-minute narrative, anecdotal in style, based on the singer's own experiences during 1966, when he'd been barred from the US Army due to his criminal record (something to do with the unlawful dumping of garbage). By turns hysterically funny and savagely satirical, it inspired a film, directed by Arthur Penn and starring Guthrie, and its various political barbs can still draw blood today. But the album also contains two magnificent examples of Guthrie's talents as a songwriter, rather than a commentator: both "Chillin' of the Evening" and the gorgeous, sweeping "Highway in the Wind" are more lyrical, evocative and beautiful than virtually anything he would write subsequently. Vocally and instrumentally, his style seems poised equally between two great influences--his father (folk legend Woodie Guthrie) and Bob Dylan, Guthrie's heir and successor; his vision, however, was all his own. --Andrew McGuire

Advantages: The best early Dylan tracks Disadvantages: None
...hold a note that he was not a great singer or that his musicianship was bettered by many others then and more since but this is hardly relevant. Of his early contemporaries such as Bob Seeger or ArloGuthrie or even Joan Baez, the ‘female Dylan’ none have managed to maintain their success to bus-pass age. Dylan remains an artist many are compared to because he was the original. Those who decried his switch to electric guitars have long since become irrelevant. Publicly Dylan has hardly put a foot wrong though his shambolic performance at the US end of ‘Band Aid’ was unwelcome. This Greatest Hits album is a must for anyone who is interested in early pop music and who appreciates songs with the strengths of personal conviction....

Advantages: Great Album Disadvantages: If you don't like punk avoid it
...This album heralded Alices first 80's release at the heyday of punk. Alice was often called the Godfather of punk because of his cutting style. Alice re-invented his original character while creating this album. This is probably his most creative 80's album, a punk masterpiece.
1. Talk Talk
(originally by Sean Bonniwell Alice adds his own dimension to this classic).
2. We're all Clones
(best song)
3. Pain
4. Leather Boots
5. Aspirin Damage
(fun song.)
6. Nuclear Infected
(sounds like a monty python sketch)
7. Grim Facts
(Teenage angst)
8. Model Citizen
(Has Alice really changed ?)
9. Dance Yourself To Death
(Very anti disco)
10. Headlines
(A slant at critics ?)...

...After the Muscle of Love album the originalAlice Cooper group disbanded. Welcome to my nightmare was Alices first solo album and one of his best. The tour was more theatrical than past attempts and Alice new this album had to sell well to make a profit. It did and became Alices solo double platinum album. Alice plays on the schizophrenic side of his character and creates a more inncocent version of Alice named Stephen, innocent that is until he murders his beloved. The album contains :-
1. Welcome To My Nightmare
(Brilliant keyboard work, this song was a major hit)
2. Devils Food
(This song is a lead up to The Black Widow)
3. The Black Widow
(A metal song, great riffs, a cameo by Vincent Price as the musuem curator also appears, great shock rocker)
4. Some Folks
(This sounds like a broadway number but it fits in well...
