It can afflict us sometimes, especially if you happen to catch the tail-end of a band's success. Bad Religion have been pioneers of politically-orientated punk in America, setting up the Epitaph Records that gave bands such as The Offspring their first recording deals.
Bad Religion guitarist Mr. Brett has helped matters slightly by putting together the "best" of Bad Religion's epitaph recordings. It's an awesome collection, featuring a live version of American punk rock classic "F*** Armedggedon - This is Hell" as well as others such as "My Atomic Garden," "I Want to Conquer the World" and "The Flat Earth Society."
If you don't own any Bad Religion, or what you do own is spread around compilations, then I recommend you buy this. You get the cream of Bad Religion songs as personally selected by Mr. Brett, without any album fillers (not that Bad Religion ever indulged in such practices...)
Bad Religion have always been (and will always be) a fantastic band, with a slightly controversial anti-Christian message to the music, but if you like the sound of American punk rock with bite as opposed to the current trend for heart-broken teenage punk (eg Blink 182, the Ataris) try this out.
Advantages: All Great Tracks Disadvantages: Pretty Pointless
All Ages is a compilation put together by Brett Gurewitz , which is basically a 'Best Of' of tracks from their albums on the Epitaph label. The material iotslef is great and features many of their best tracks, but it all seems kind of pointless. Bad Religion albums have a tendency to sound all the same, and to many this is their appeal ! Selecting a few tracks from 5 or 6 of their albums doesn't really make sense as they are the sort of band where ...

...you the best songs from all those albums and gives you an insite into what BR are all about.
To be going that long they must be doing something right, and they have been constantly changing their style ever so slightly throughout the bands life.
In the whole BR's songs are punk rock, and to be quite honest they are the kings of punk rock, no
one else even comes close.
This CD is great value for money with 22 songs which even though short, makes ... ...Brooks Wackerman - Drums
all these guys deserve a mention, they have done so much for music in these last 20 or so years, i hope they carry on as long as they feel they should.
If you own many or all of BR albums then you may not need to buy this, but if you are a relative newcomer to BR then this will give you just a taste of what they can offer, and they can offer a lot. ...

Advantages: I think a lot of people who are new to BR will like it. I only dislike it because I've heard so much better stuff that they've done. Disadvantages: Not up to their older standards. They can do MUCH better!!
as good as ‘The Gray Race’ or the earlier more punky records ‘Against The Grain’ and ‘AllAges’. But almost everything that we have learned to love with BadReligion is there; the pure guitar based punkrock (with a little more rock than punk nowadays) like they've always played, and the top class punk lyrics previously mentioned. Its just that somehow this time, something seems to be lacking.
With their more mainstream rating, they have perhaps pushed the production of this album in to a realm that is just too perfect. Maybe I’m weird, but I really liked their older stuff that sounded heavier and recording quality was good but not so crisp. It just sounds wrong this time round. Too many ooohs and aaahs filling in spaces, and to be honest, at times they sound a bit girlie (no offence girls ...

Album Notes
Bad Religion: Greg Graffin (vocals); Mr. Brett, Greg Hetson (guitar); Jay Bentley (bass); Pete Finestone (drums). Additional personnel: Brian Baker (guitar); Bobby Schayer (drums). 1995's ALL AGES is a 22-track compilation that collects nearly all of Bad Religion's best tracks while on the Epitaph label. The band's music has stood the test of time incredibly well, musically proving to be a major influence on such late-'90s punk-pop chart-toppers as Blink 182 and the Offspring, while lyrically they were never afraid to tackle challenging topics (destruction of the planet, racism, evil politicians, etc.). ALL AGES proves to be incredibly consistent from beginning to end, but specific standouts would include "21st Century Digital Boy," "Do What You Want," "Atomic Garden," and "Suffer."
Album Reviews
Spin (3/96, p.107) - 9 - Near Perfect - "...Picking peaks out of a catalogue as level as the Isley Brothers', ALL AGES is definitely where to start upping their constituency....small store of wonderful as opposed to excellent songs....the 22-songs-in-50-minutes gather compelling force..." Q (1/96, p.146) - 3 Stars - Good - "...as energetic, angry and tuneful as many of their contemporaries....the tunes are frighteningly catchy..." NME (11/25/95, p.47) - 7 (out of 10) - "...this compilation...is as much a blueprint for today's mega-selling groups as a primer for wannabes, with equal parts anger, sanctimony, hatred for institutions, sarcasm, doubt and world-weariness....there is something endlessly compelling about the simplicity and ferocity of their work..."
