All Angels - All Angels

...That's exactly what happened with All Angels - They just happened to be singing one of my favourite songs (Songbird) in a perfect, sweet, harmony. I'm lucky enough to have a mum who has a huge interest in choral, religious, and classical music, so the first thing I did was call her up, and see if she happened to have this. She did. Advantages: A load of great three minute guitar-pop, variety of styles
Disadvantages: One or two duller tracks

...Anyone who was a teenager in the mid-90s (listening to the radio, but too young for acid house raves) will probably fondly recall the massive success of songs like 'Girl From Mars', 'Oh Yeah' and 'Goldfinger'. Perhaps it's a surprise to some people, but Ash proved far from a flash in the pan. This singles collection draws from their mini-album Trailer, break-though 1977, 'difficult second album' Nu-Clear Sounds and come back Free All Angels, plus a couple of random odds and ends from soundtracks and the like. Unfortunately it was released before their latest album (Meltdown), so doesn't feature any singles from there. Their career's been a bit 'up and down'. Even the liner notes admit that Nu-Clear Sounds "confused the public" and that Tim Wheeler was suffering from writer's block. Only three of those songs are represented here... Read review

...organ music in the intro. Then the song bursts into a vibrant and powerful tune sung all about Heaven and angels and all things nice. This is the longest tune on the album, lasting approximately six minutes. Heavenly tune. 13. Express Yourself 9/10 This is all about not wanting money and materialistic things from a lover, but just wanting love. Maybe this is a bit hypocritical after Material Girl, but who cares? Again, this is one of those tracks that grows on you rather than liking it straight away. 13. Cherish 10/10 This is a very sweet and uplifting tracks which will make even the most miserable of people feel happy; it's like a ray of light when you are feelling down in the dumps. Although she does sound about ten years old when singing this, but it sort of adds to the cute appeal of it. Upbeat and lively, real feelgood tune... Read review

Advantages: The most magnificent and sublime soundtrack that offers something for almost everyone

...without compromising the aspects of the play too much and as such it does feature a lot of witty and theatrical dialogue that is perfectly adapted to the more real world of New York. With strong performances from all involved, Angels in America is one powerfully effective work that deserves all the praise it has got. THE SCORE When I bought the soundtrack for Angels in America, I was pretty much taking a leap of faith. My only real touch with the music was from one sound clip I had heard over a commercial on TV and got it without even reading any reviews of it whatsoever. (And I really wasn't even sure if that soundclip actually came from the film.) But after listening to the album twice around I was very relieved.
