I can understand why some younger people feel he is overrated because there have been so many people using his style and iambic meter that the sound is sometimes not as exciting to the younger generation of hip hop fans (this is for the most part...but not always). But for a guy like me who was in his late ... ...it was new. Nobody sounded like him. It is rare to be on a soap box like this but I have read about people dissing Tupac's album All Eyes on Me and saying that it is overrated but this is most likely to a generation gap.
I can understand why some younger people feel he is overrated because there have been so many people using his style and iambic meter that the sound is sometimes not as exciting to the younger generation of hip hop fans (this is for the most part...but not always). But for a guy like me who was in his late teens/early twenties, the sound is so hip and fresh because it was new. Nobody sounded like him. When he dropped, nobody rapped with such emotion and embodied much of the struggle that many of us was going through...his raps more than empathized with our emotions. When I see evaluations of the album by people I wonder how old are they. Because the day his album dropped, every car that went by on my college campus was bumping that album! I was almost broke and my room mate and I scrapped up the money to both go in and buy it. A Person has to remember, when this album dropped, the now 17, 18, 19 year olds were 6, 7, 8 year olds and really couldn't understand what he meant to the Rap Game. So by the time many of that age group gets into hip hop really deep, they wonder, "what's the big deal with Tupac?" because they have been listening to people imitating his style for years. But in 1993-1996 he was the only one coming so provocative. Who was putting down sounds that rivaled his? People argue that Biggie did. OK that's fine. Now who else? Only one rapper was on his level. It is like comparing Steve Young or John Elway, who is better? You could argue either way so let's drop that for the moment (cause I like them both). So when people talk about how great this album was it is in reference to the emotion that he exuded. Nobody...I mean Nobody was screaming the word "Thug" before Tupac...Nobody! Now everyone is a thug? He changed the game. But this generation gap holds true with me. I liked some of the early rappers but I did not think them special and older guys (5-10 years older) think that I am crazy. They feel that those were the best rappers. Regardless, I feel Tupac was like Wilt Chamberlain to Basketball, and people loved the guy. He said what many of us wanted to say. That's why people are emotional about this album. Whether you like or hate Tupac, if you were in the mix (college or on the block) when this album dropped, you can clearly remember the buzz! I haven't seen that kind of a buzz since. Synopsis: the album is very good and emotional. If you really need a recommendation about 2upac's best album you probably missed the bus on this one. But if you miss the bus on the big deal, I can understand.
...the finest rap star of all time, and "All Eyez on Me" is his master piece; the focal point of the tragic life and career of the freshest, hippest and most consistent rap star ever.
Granted, the work released since his death has not been up to the standard of his earlier releases. Nevertheless "All Eyez on Me" epitomises all that 2Pac's fans grew to love about him. He is gangster, seen in "Thug Passion" and the title track; he is bitter, seen in ... ...got it sorely wrong. The mega 29 track offering introduces a metaphor for the multi-faceted life of 2Pac, loved or loathed. "All Eyez on Me" is the benchmark for all rap albums, and will long remain on the play-lists of rap fans or fans of music in general ...

Advantages: So many bangers Disadvantages: A couple if tracks don't have the energy which the others possess
"AllEyez On Me" is the 9X Platinum-selling album from 2Pac. it was his fourth, and penultimate album prior to his death in September of the year, 1996. The album is largely seen as a classic Hip Hop recording, and one of the most influential to date. It is a double album, and amazingly the artists manged to write and record the whole thing within two weeks (whihc also happened to be the fortnight after he was relased from prison).

1. "Ambitionz Az A Ridah"
The introduction of "I can't deny it, umma straight ridah" draws you right in as you get quite simplistic production, which is all based around a very plain piano lop. Regardless of this, it is lost in the quality of his rhymes, which show exactly why he is able to label himself in such a way. It's legacy was recently highlighted by been the basis for a track off ...
Advantages: 2 CD's (plenty of tracks), Collabarations aplenty Disadvantages: None at all, The album is top notch
I remember when I purchased the legendary 2PacsAlleyez on me album, it was a few months after his death and i had heard of the obviously well known tunes on the album, California love, How do u want it, etc. Little did I know that I had purchased an album featuring 28 great tracks. you know when an album is that good when you only end up skipping 2 tracks 5 years after buying it!
The 1st cd has a typical 2pac flava to it, with some great collabarations, California love with sir Dr Dre, How do u want it with KC and Jojo(one of my favourite rap tunes ever), Got my mind made up ,with Meth and Redman and the compulsory Nate dogg tracks that are on any rap album, All about u and Skandalouz! The mixture of Nate's unmistakable voice, which is really more like singing then rapping, and 2pacs raw rapping style really compliments each other ...
Advantages: Probably the greatest Album ever from the greatest rapper ever! Disadvantages: None
AllEyez on me is by far the best 2pac album ever produced and in my opinion may be a high contender for the nnumber 1 rap album of all time position, there is not one track on this album that you won't like. Every track on this album would have been a hit if some of them had been released into the charts. There are many great tracks on this album such as "Alleyez on me", "U can't C me", "shorty wanna be a thug", "Holla at me", "Ambitions as a Ridah", "No more Pain" and many other greats. If you haven't heard this album then you definatly should because once you do you'll find yourself wanting to buy it! A great album by the greatest rapper of all time!! You should buy this if you are a 2pac fan or even if your just a general rap fan your collection will never be complete without this album! ...

All tracks have been digitally remastered. ALL EYEZ ON ME was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. "California Love," featuring Dr. Dre and Roger Troutman, and "How Do U Want It," featuring KC and JoJo, were both nominated for the 1997 Grammy for Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group. The first double-CD of original material by a rap artist, ALL EYEZ ON ME marks 2Pac's return from incarceration to the recording grind. And though Tupac Shakur may have spent the better part of 1995 locked up and battling the system, the album makes it obvious that, rather than degenerating his artistic abilities, the struggles have only elevated his skills. Now, with the backing of West Coast hip-hop's first family, Death Row Records, 2Pac gathers together many of the rap ruling class to celebrate his comeback and give the finger to those who've scrutinized his music and aggravated his existence. While California has always been his base of operations (he began his career as a member of Oakland's Digital Underground), 2Pac is one of the few '90s rappers to earn props on both coasts. ALL EYEZ ON ME reciprocates the respect by toasting the west ("California Love," a duet with Dr. Dre), the east ("Got My Mind Made Up" features NYC strong-men, Redman and Method Man), and the old-school funkateers (George Clinton shows up on "Can't C Me"). The consistently fierce production by a diverse army of beat-fiends keeps the album pumping, seemingly diverting the mainstream consumers' attention away from the rapper's volatile stance. But 2Pac does not shy away from speaking his mind; he's simply learning which confrontations are truly worth it ("Only God Can Judge Me"). Because peace is that much harder to find when so many eyez are on ya.

Q (7/01, p.130) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...One of the few occasions where 2Pac's music matches his kinetic personality....he really was the peerless embodiment of gangsta rap, a strutting provocateur staking out turf, calling out enemies and consoling peers..." NME (3/2/96, p.47) - 9 (out of 10) - "...ALL EYEZ is his angry, end-of-tether, couldn't-give-a-shit meditation....an immense spewing of indignation and provocation, set to a brilliantly varied range of G-funk grooves....Tupac blasts out his non-PC opinions...with a competition-eliminating relentlessness..." Entertainment Weekly (3/8/96, p.64) - "...On ALL EYEZ ON ME, 2Pac is clearly thrilled to host his own bustin'-out party. But even on this booty-shaking album, he's watching his back throughout the entire bash."
