THE DARK ARMIES THEN WILL COME WHEN THE SUM IS 41…

ANOTHER ALBUM FROM ANOTHER CRAZY BUNCH, WHOS OBJECTIVE IS TO GIVE US ALL A LITTLE MOSH, A LITTLE ENTERTAINMENT BUT THIS ALBUM TEACHES US NEVER TOO WAKE BUT THE MAIN MESSAGE IS, WE ARE ALL IN TOO DEEP.

WHO ARE SUM 41?

Well SUM 41 are another punk band on the music scene, emphasising that infact Punks not dead as too many people have been saying nowadays, just look at Blink 182 and Sum 41 of course – the two are the best of friends. Anyway the band members are as follows:

BIZZY D
BROWN SOUND
CONE
STEVO 32

So this opinion is about the album so here is my analysis of it. It’s called: All Killer no Filler and not their first album, though the most popular one, as they were known if you understand what I mean. I don’t mean to be too critical of them when I say this, though although the quality of their songs is good. The tracks are simply not long enough and this album is disappointing when it comes to the length approximately 35 and a half minutes, for a product about £14, need more!

Okay so the tracks there are fourteen on my album, which is a special addition! So here goes: -

INTRODUCTION TO DESTRUCTION (0.37)

This is not a musical track but a weird introduction to the album, a poem summing up the band, and talking nonsense, and it leads you straight on too the next track, which is thankfully musical. This one however if for those poets out there, me!

NOTHING ON MY BACK (3.01)

We are immediately hit with electric guitars and the beating of drums, after this hard introduction we are lightening up with some lyrics (way hay) and we are taken through this song, with this competitive rhythm. However, this song fails to make a profound impact on me really.

NEVER WAKE UP (0.50)

If you were asleep then that’s ashame as you wont be now, as this song goes straight to the point. The irony of this song is that it is talking about never waking up, though when you listen I doubt you would ever get to sleep. This is because the song hits us from the starts, with that heart racing beat, and shouting in this short track. In a weird way though I really like this track, I could mosh all the way through, it could finish and I could rest. Simple.

FAT LIP (2.58)

This was the first single released from the album and is it just me or do they sing extremely fast in this song. I mean have they ever heard of breathing. I think I am being critical again, I do though really like this song. The start of it is entreaging as it is single riffs played on the electric guitar, then moves you onto a regular beat. Then the lyrics come, they confuse me though that’s typical of like every song I ever listen too, but basically it is trying to tell you, not too waste you time and not become a casualty of society, I take it you know the rest. Listen to this song, I think you’ll enjoy it, I know you will!

RHYTHMS (2.59)

I’m falling faster all the time…

I cant think how true that line is for me, how I am relating too that. I get the impression that this song is more sentimental than the rest (So of course I’ll like it) and it is now as heavy as the others, though still is an excellent track. I think that this could be a possible single for SUM 41, I know I would buy it as it has this affect on me. I am rambling…

MOTIVATION (2.50)

Well this song is another one, which strikes a note with my happy cells. There is nothing like a song like this to give you a little motivation, that final push. As like the previous song, it could be a potential single I think and it has a nice feel too it, it’s hard to explain, like they are singing with a serious tone or something. Okay I took that one too far…

IN TOO DEEP

This is by far my favourite SUM 41 song and was of course the second single off the album. This song is quite a soft song, the melody is slow and it bursts into a high tempo chorus. I think the lyrics are superb and I could see the possibility of this song being adding to my top ten (that’s sad eh) and well it tells us something we all know really deep down, we are all in too deep.

SUMMER

This is quite a strange track, a long introduction before we are finally joined with the presence of some lyrics. This song is nothing more than an album track, I am willing to eat my words, and it is a good way to pass the time. The tempo of this song is quite moderate and maintains a study drum beat. If you are in a rush, you could skip this one.

HANDLE THIS (3.37)

I think that everything to be said about this song has been said in the above track. This song is again nothing too superb, I don’t know if I can handle this, argh! It is I suppose, quite a tranquille song, could never mosh too it. So what’s the point?

CRAZY AMANADA BUNKFACE (2.16)

This song is another quiet little song, soft sounding, and sweet melodics. I like this song, I hope it likes me too! It is one I think I could sit and concentrate with, if you understand me? It seems to relax me as it plays, though what’s with the title of it, I only wonder?

ALL SHE’S GOT (2.22)

This song is not too bad, not superb it’s an okay, shall not surpass album track status I think. It is like most of the others quite soft in sound, pace is always changing and it bursts into a dramatic chorus. Have a little listen.

HEART ATTACK (2.49)

This song begins with a long guitar part, some softly lyrics and a sweep of emotions explodes throughout you. I feel it hard to swallow, then the chorus explodes in true Sum 41 fashion. This is a good track, not many tracks have an effect on me this is one that does, why does it, who knows? I think that anyone who listens tot his album would enjoy this track, and there is a strong possibility I think, of this being a single.

PAIN FOR PLEASURE (1.43)

I like this song although it’s a bit of a weird one, we are introduced by references to the devil, not the happiest thought, nor the happiest song. Though before these lyrics occur, there is a LONG introduction from the guitar, then they sing in unison, I shiver. This song is trying to give you the impression that pain is pleasure, and we shouldn’t forget that. I agree.

MAKES NO DIFFERENCE – UK BONUS TRACK (3.10)

This is a little extra song on my CD as it is the special edition. I think that’s this is an okay song, but I don’t go about telling everyone how much I like it or anything like that. I really don’t know what too say about this track apart from it is really like the rest, a mediocre track, with the few exceptions.

This album although I have been so critical is still worth investing in, SUM 41 are a promising band, there concert was mad ( last week ) and they have a strong fan base around the world – buy this album and join the growing force of Punk Rock.

AND remember PUNKS NOT DEAD
