Karl brings Nile out of Egypt!
Review of Saurian Meditation - Karl Sanders by worf22

Advantages: Seriously cool
Disadvantages: absolutely none, it is what it is.

...I was so thrilled to hear that Karl was doing this album. I have Been a big fan of Nile since they first come onto the international scene and was instantly a fan due to their cutting edge sound, brutal technicality and originality, 'I could go on about Nile, but I am not here to write about them, except to say that I had often loved the extended pieces with just that authentic egyptian sound from the various instruments Karl uses on their albums including the epic chanting and sounds that make the masses want to rise and conquer! He has now taken those pieces, which are awesome without the blast beats, growling vocals and seriously fast distorted guitars which....oops.. there I go again....... And he has now done a whole album of this. It is exactly what I expected it to be and was not dissapointed. The title says it all... Read review

The Unbeatable Sound Of Motown
Review of Hitsville USA Vol.1 (The Motown Singles Collection 1959-1971) - Various Artists by IanPhillips

Advantages: Every Track's a Classic!
Disadvantages: None as such!

...also highlights some of their most exciting work from the early 70's with the undertones of hot, pulsating funk on Cloud Nine, which saw Dennis Edwards being lead vocalist after the swift departure of David Ruffin and the utterly fantastic classic, Ball Of Confusion, divulging into contemporary social issues. Smokey Robinson was a key artist at Motown who wrote some timeless music and was generally an all-round and highly versatile entertainer. Some of his most enthralling work is on here such as the infectious sounds of The Tears Of A Clown and the breathtakingly beautiful, The Tracks Of My Tears. Stevie Wonder was a sheer genius and some of his greatest work is included here, from the masterpiece production of Fingertips to the playful funk of Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours. Marvin Gaye was another one of Motowns definitive... Read review

Green Day off...Three chord discord.
Review of American Idiot (Parental Advisory) [PA] - Green Day by mark_allen71

Advantages: The first punk-prog concept album
Disadvantages: The first punk-prog concept album!

...-thwacking at the moment. It’s all worthy and I can’t argue with the politics, but its getting a bit boring. American Idiot begins with the single of the same name, the undeniable highlight of the album. Its high-energy stomp is the kind of song that makes it alright for 30-somethings like me to still bleach and spike our hair and feel everything is ok. Its because we have grown up with Green Day providing this kind of single to soundtrack our lives and cheer us up during rainy festivals in Leeds. When they submerge into the prog-rock mini-opera of Jesus of Suburbia however thoughts of Yes and Genesis come flooding back…Even the title reminds me of something. Anyone remember David Bowie’s Buddha of Suburbia? No? Exactly! They do wear their influences on their sleeves. Extraordinary Girl is very much like late Jellyfish’s “The King Is Half Undressed” and I... Read review
