Blue bounced into our lives as the 'new awesome4some boyband'. Unlike the other manufactured rubbish out there, Dunc, Simon, Lee and Anthony all came from diverse backgrounds and added their own style to each track on this album by actually using their voices properly. Sevral times on TV interviews, they have sung unaccompanied. The priviledge of working with Elton John henceforth has added to their highly respected profile. Also the fact that they have had consecutive number ones.
I have to admit, referring to my comment on de ja vu as a disadvantage that when I first saw the album cover and heard about Blue, the lineup reminded me so much of what has been done before, that is Another Level. It sprung to mind that they may have a few hits and then go their separate ways likewise, however Blue have stuck together through good times, Anthony's marriage, and even bad, Lees galavanting that has had the police involved.
Below
is my track by track breakdown for this album:
1. All Rise. Blues first release. I love the words being so original and realistic. Simon's mini rap serves in good sted as a break and the music is up and down if a little strong in parts like a case itself. Court disputes happen every day and Blue have used the situation properly. 9/10
2. Too Close. A lovely piece of music. This song is cheeky and with lines like 'you're making it hard for me', Blue prove that they have no fear in singing words of a sexual nature. The woman's vocals add to the song's togetherness and I like the 'grinding' term as it is modern and in keeping with our times. 9/10
3. This Temptation. Blue sing of 'that black dress' - of course the classic pulling outfit - and of a girl deciding if she is in the mood to 'get it on right now'. Great sounds that mimic sexual lunges halfway through the song as male eagerness matches woman's temptation. 9/10
4. If You Come Back. A song about how there are times when you really want to see someone again after they have done the bunk on you. Promises, promises, promises but does begging really help? Blue whine effectively 8/10
5. Fly By. Woh woh woh woh wah wah sounds at the beginning make a lovely intro. Voice of Dunc very sultry as he describes the lady. This song is nothing short of EXCELLENT for a drive in the car with 'hands high' and sound 'system up' 9/10
6. Bounce. This is my least popular track. It has some nice tones to it but lacks in something - hard to point the finger at what in particular but song is credible enough for being above board and musically balanced in its compilation. 6/10
7. Long Time. 10/10 for this slow number. I love this song for its feeling and the way it draws you in to remember and not take for granted the times being with someone special. 8. Make It Happen. I think this song is very matcho and gives girls the truth about males. They DONT really like to 'wait for you' and get frustrated with 'just a call' because passion at the soonest opportunity is what dominates their mind. 8/10
9. Back To You. I think this song is good for reassurance that boys do 'come back' to you if indeed they are hooked - 'everytime I see your face, just wanna be with you' Blue sing. Therefore, no clingyness and be hard to get as a woman/girl! The songs power has a rap and shows the male chasing part. 8/10
10. Girl I'll Never Understand. This is a sad song. It is about the pitfalls in a relationship that deteriorates. I think Blue have done well to place this song here in the album as it is near the end and importantly just before the final two positive impactful tracks. 7/10
11. Back Some Day. I like this song as it is inspirational. We all wish for good things from the past to come back and Blue here promise that even 'when we are alone', we can be secure in the knowledge that they will return triumphant. 7/10
12. Best In Me. 10/10, I listen to this a lot as it is about true compatibility and warmth from two people that suit each other. Love rather than short term attraction shines through when Blue sing that the person makes them feel 'like noone else can do' and also that 'from the moment met' they 'knew' the partner'd be theirs. In two words, like full on love, this song is the "Real Deal".
