I'm listening to this album as I'm typing, so will comment on it seeing as it's a really good cd :).
I first got into All Saints when they released their sultry, moody "Never Ever" which stormed into the charts and stayed there for a month (or more, I forget). The speakers break into music with Never Ever being the first song on the album. It's quite a long song, but is ideal for listening to when you need to belt out your vocal chords or just wanna relax.
The next song on the album is Bootie Call. This has gone into the odd side of the album, I'm not sure of it's aim or subject, but it's not a bad song. What I would advise is that they put it to the end of the album, because I feel that it's quite strained where it is at the start. This song also contains some snoring (or peculiar whistling), which kinda put me off the song. Wahtever floats your boat I guess...
On we go to "I Know Where It's At". This happens to be the All Saints' first single, and I think it worked for them in the charts. I'm not really sure it works on the album, especially being place 3, but it's a good song, bit repetitive in parts.
Next is "Under The Bridge". This is a cover of the Red Hot Chili Peppers's song of the same name, but with a few slight changes. Not bad, probably one of my favourites on the album. I like the guitar riffs at the start, they've modified them slightly from the RHCP's.
Track no. 5 is "Heaven". This takes a while to get going compared to the others on the album, but I think it's probably worth it. Shaznay's voice really works at the start, against the heavy beat and the strange little sound. The beat gets in your head, and it annoyed me for quite a while. All in all, a good song.
Next is "Alone". I like the kinda cartoony feel at the start (maybe that's just my childish charm at play, I'm not sure ;). In the first verse, Mel sounds like she's on the phone, or muffled, which I think is pretty effective. A really good song which you just have to nod your head to.
After that it's "Let's Get Started". Quite a Bollywood/70's feel at the start of the song, which put me off, lol. But trust me, when you get into this song, it's actually not too bad, you learn to love it. Shaznay's rapping doesn't really work for me, but it might for you, I'm not sure.
Track no. 8 is "Trapped". Now, the first part of this made me feel like I was in a breaking lift, heehee. Probably one of my least favourites on the album, quite repetitive and boring. I nearly went to sleep when I first heard it *yawn*.
Next is "Beg". An r'n'b/pop song, the man's voice got on my nerves, and I'm not really sure of the aim of this song either. Could be better, but not the worst song I've ever heard.
On we go to "Lady Marmalade". Now, don't be fooled, this is nothing like the Christina Aguilera version, no sirree. Much funkier (I think), certainly woke me up from "Beg". Shaznay raps really well in this, Mel's nasal squawks ruins the rapping. Would like to hear more from the other two, because their performance in the last 3 have been almost non-existent.
Number 11 is "Take The Key". Another pretty boring song, nothing special. Not as bad as "Trapped", but at least "Trapped" had some kind of sound (even if it was broken lift).
The last song (well, the last song is a remix, so I'm not gonna count that) is "War Of Nerves". Good title, good intro (reminded me a bit of Never Ever with piano parts), good lyrics. Don't have a problem at all with this song, a nice one to relax to with a glass of wine in the evenings ;)
All in all, this album is not really worth buying, as about 1/4 of the songs just send you to sleep. I don't know about you, but when I buy an album I wanna make sure it's NOT boring :).
I realise this op is pretty long, well done if you read all of it, I promise to try and write a shorter one next time, lol. Peace and Love.
Advantages: Great vocals, lyrics and strong singles Disadvantages: If You Want To Party, a very bad song
...song that introduced us to All Saints back in 1997. A very nice pop track with great beats and a very nice feel good factor to it.
4) Under The Bridge- A cover version of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers song which didn't go down very well with many of the RHCP fans. To be honest I never liked the RHCP version of this song anyway and so to me the All Saints version was always more appealing. It's a great R&B track which marked a second number one for ... ...heart-felt ballad, it’s more soulful than most of their previous singles, including Never Ever. This is by far the best track on the album. Overall a very impressive debut which turned the All Saints into one of the biggest girl bands in the world, and rightly so. ...

...be a loyal fan of All Saints, and I own both albums. I think they are a sophisticated band and I like their music. I have recently been put off by Party In The Park, where they performed and forgot their words to Never Ever (is this physically possible...their first and biggest hit) yet, they managed it. I think this is appaling at such a huge concert. I later heard from a friend that at another concert, they AGAIN forgot their words, and were generally ...

...often hear a comparison between All Saints and the Spice Girls. While there are undeniable similarities, they are some distinct differences. As a whole, I do like the voices of Spice better, but Shaznay and Natalie have an incredible depth to their voice that is often hidden in their overdone vibrato. Some of the songs are catchy enough, but as a whole the album is neither here nor there - not completely R&B and not completely pop either. Which could ... ...quality of their lyrics and melodies run middle ground also - not to mention I wasn't too fond of their covers. "Never Ever", however, is to AS what "Back for Good" was to Take That. It shows that these girls have great potential and given half a chance can write and sing a good song. Hopefully their next album will pump out more quality songs like NE. If so, their should be no question who's the better girlband group. ...

Review of All Saints - All Saints
Advantages: very strong vocals Disadvantages: could be slightly more diverse range of sounds
...They seem to fuse all the best bits from swing, soul and disco along with a bit of R&B, they flex their vocal chords and their flawless harmonies to deliver perfect 'pop' songs. This CD shows that All Saints are a group with more going for them than some sexy moves and outfits. For a so-called girl band, All Saints are surprisingly consistent and mature. The excellent catchy tunes mixed with four fine voices make for quite an enjoyable album. Shaznay ...

Review of All Saints - All Saints
The All Saints album is a fairly good album. There are a variety of songs on the album including the part French one ‘ voulez vous couches avec moi, ce soir?’ and Booty Call. Even though it is quite an old album now it is still ‘passable’ as an album and it will get listened to fairly often. The All Saints are a band that keep coming and going with songs in and out of the charts. Their latest single pure shores was a great ...

Advantages: pure shores Disadvantages: can't think of any
I really like Pure Shores. When I first heard it on MTV, I thought, well, it's been a long time since AllSaint's last single released - but this excellent one sure makes up for it!!!
I love the perfect tune, it just suits The Beach great. It is sang by four very talented, young, female singers, who togther, make up the AllSaints!!!! I like AllSaints a lot and Pure Shores is just another one of their excellent singles!!!!! I am sure that AllSaints will continue to release brilliant songs, just like this one!!!
And I thought I heard the other day on radio 1 that their forthcoming album is GREAT!!!!!! ...
Advantages: It is funky pop pure catchy and so Brintney Disadvantages: Quite a lot of ballads
' and firmly establishes that Brit is good at the old tear jerkers, but it still has the distinct sound of 'BSB' in there somewhere.
Where Are You Now
Another ballad and this one is so haunting and sounds very like 'Celine'. Starting of nice and soft then getting stronger all the way as Brit's heart opens up to us all pleading to know where her love has gone. A bit tame but after a few listens, you appreciate the beauty of this one.
Can't Make You Love Me
Back to the 'BSB' sound again that is more probably a Brit sound now, as this album is full of that huge funky bass line and thundering chorus. Brit's in love in this one but now that she is famous, she is finding hard to find the right one!
When Your Eyes Say It
AllSaints, AllSaints oh no it is our princess Brit, but this is so like 'Never Ever' you could almost mistake it ...
Advantages: great song Disadvantages: a bit cheeky
All Hooked Up - AllSaints-CD Single released 15/01/01
All Hooked Up is the AllSaints' follow up to their massive number one, Black Coffee. Taken from the Saints and Sinners album this latest single certainly lives up to their previous releases and follows on from the laid back groove of Black Coffee but manages to sound different enough to make its own mark. All Hooked Up is written by K-Gee Gordon and Shaznay Lewis, who also provides the vocal arrangement as well as the lead vocal, and sounds like a sure fire fan pleaser as well as a good bet for the top ten. ...

Album Notes
All Saints: Nicole, Melanie, Natalie, Shaznay Lewis (vocals). Additional personnel includes: K. Gee (various instruments); Karl Gordon (keyboards, drum programming); John Benson, Cyril McNammon (keyboards); Sean Cox (keyboard programming). Producers include: Cameron McVey, Magnus Fiennes, Karl Gordon, Johnny Douglas, Neville Henry. Engineers include: Marcellas Fernandes, Ruadhri Cushnan. All Saints manages to distill their pop, hip-hop and soul influences into a kinder, gentler blend without giving up the groove. The rap segments are disarming, not alarming and the sex has it's place but it's not in your face. Velvety vocal harmonies float over sparse, gritty instrumentals furnished with traditional hip-hop scratch and sample underpinnings. This album has a varied range of feelings and rythyms, with a good balance of ballads and up tunes. It goes from flirtatious to soul-searching, mischievous to mellow, but always party-perfect. Their British chart topper "I Know Where It's At" is a frisky and infectious dance tune, contrasting their follow-up hit "Never Ever," a heartfelt girl group anthem. All in all, ALL SAINTS is a pleasant invitation into a girl's heart; fun but not frivolous; sincere but not somber; innocent but not ignorant. You go, girls!
