This 3-CD compilation from Readers' Digest has many of the hits of the time. CD 1 is entitled “Blockbuster”, CD2 “Forever And Ever” and CD3 “Dynamite”. There are hits from stars such as Mott the Hoople, Sweet, Suzi Quatro and Slade.Suzi was known as the First Lady of glam rock and her diminutive appearance belied her raunchy performances. On this album we are treated to Can the Can, Fever, The Wild One and Ain’t Ya Somethin’ Honey. Slade, originally called The ‘N’ Betweens, were probably the era’s most commercial band. The album features their hits Coz I Luv You, Cum On Feel The Noize, (English teachers luved them), Don’t Blame Me, and Far Far Away.Sweet, the champions of bubble-gum-pop, offer us The Ballroom Blitz, Blockbuster, and Little Willy (surely you remember that one?) Also featured on the album are another band from the stable of Chinn and Chapman, Mud, with the catchy Dyna-Mite and Tiger Feet, as well as one of my favourites, Show Me You’re A Woman. There are also offerings from Showaddywaddy, The Glitter Band, Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel, Middle Of The Road, and Wizzard. Last, but most definitely not least, the man who, for me, epitomises the Glam Rock scene. The late and much lamented Marc Bolan and T.Rex with Hot Love, Jeepster, Life’s A Gas and Ride A White Swan. This is a great album from Readers’ Digest and a fitting tribute to an era I am proud to have lived through (so there!) Advantages: Great tracks, and that saxophone! Disadvantages: May not be everyone's cup of tea
I've spent the last few years travelling backward through my musical history, looking at the artists that I used to like, and ones that passed me by - to see how they stand up today. I found some to laugh at (purely in a "I liked THAT?!" type way), and some absolute gems. Spandau Ballet is one of these jewels in the crown of music, and I've been meaning to get myself a 'best of' for a while now. Thanks to Christmas - I now have one.
Gold is a 'best of' released just this year. There have been others which have since been deleted, but this one has all the best tracks that any fan or musical traveller like myself would be looking for. Spandau Ballet have many classic tracks - one of the more memorable bands of the early to mid-eighties. They were formed in a transition period between the soul and disco of the 70s, and the musical mish ...
The point at which the Manic Street Preachers lost their magical edge is a constant source of debate. Some consider when they sold out and signed to Sony against all they said before was the end, others the moment Richey Edwards left and they decided to carry on as a trio. Others however put the blame squarely on this, their second ever album. Having said that, it really is not such a bad record as it may appear.
?Gold Against the Soul? was a big move following the Manics first album ?Generation Terrorists?. The first was pure punk rock with the aim of being as obnoxious and destructive as possible. And they did it well, with this album being much more of a comedown. It is much more heavily produced with the aim to please the music industry and markets, particularly the American one. An idle promise was the Manic Street Preachers ...
Advantages: Generally a good album Disadvantages: Mariah got from Virgin after this album
gets that fantastic 7 octave voice that we're all used to across. Nice little transition album between Columbia - Virgin and Def Jam Records.
Price wise this can now be picked up quiet cheap and for anyone who likes Mariahs music or the movie i would say this is a must have. ...
