The Seventies is often referred to as the decade that taste forgot. Well, I grew up in the Glam Rock era, and I have fond memories of the music of that time. If you remember the Seventies and feel like wallowing in a bit of nostalgia this is the album for you. (If you’re too young to remember, this is what you missed!) This 3-CD compilation from Readers' Digest has many of the hits of the time. CD 1 is entitled “Blockbuster”, CD2 “Forever And Ever” and CD3 “Dynamite”. There are hits from stars such as Mott the Hoople, Sweet, Suzi Quatro and Slade.Suzi was known as the First Lady of glam rock and her diminutive appearance belied her raunchy performances. On this album we are treated to Can the Can, Fever, The Wild One and Ain’t Ya Somethin’ Honey. Slade, originally called The ‘N’ Betweens, were probably the era’s most commercial band. The album features their hits Coz I Luv You, Cum On Feel The Noize, (English teachers luved them), Don’t Blame Me, and Far Far Away.Sweet, the champions of bubble-gum-pop, offer us The Ballroom Blitz, Blockbuster, and Little Willy (surely you remember that one?) Also featured on the album are another band from the stable of Chinn and Chapman, Mud, with the catchy Dyna-Mite and Tiger Feet, as well as one of my favourites, Show Me You’re A Woman. There are also offerings from Showaddywaddy, The Glitter Band, Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel, Middle Of The Road, and Wizzard. Last, but most definitely not least, the man who, for me, epitomises the Glam Rock scene. The late and much lamented Marc Bolan and T.Rex with Hot Love, Jeepster, Life’s A Gas and Ride A White Swan. This is a great album from Readers’ Digest and a fitting tribute to an era I am proud to have lived through (so there!) I had no idea Readers Digest did that sort of thing... somehow glam rock isn't part of their image!
