When Elvis finished his 'movie career' he decided that he needed to perform in concert again. He felt that he had lost touch with his fans and needed to get back to what was important, making music. He then became a headliner again in Las Vegas and was determined to leave the movies behind him and perform to live audiences again. He was filmed in 1970 rehearsing and preparing for stage performances the footage was made into a documentary movie called 'That's the way it is' and people began to realise just what they had been missing when Elvis was away making the movies that he had been contracted to complete.

By 1973 Elvis's popularity was reaching new heights and he was asked to perform in a charity concert in Hawaii. The concert named 'Aloha from Hawaii' was performed in front of a packed audience and beamed out by satellite to billions of homes worldwide on January 14th 1973.(The concert actually received more viewings than Neil Armstrong's moon landing.) Elvis had already started wearing his famous white stage costumes which he is usually remembered for,but usually as fat and unattractive in a tight white suit, sorry none of that, Elvis was looking good. The white suit that he wore is remembered by fans as the 'Eagle Suit' and he also wore a matching cape. At this time he also had his personal problems, he had seperated from his wife Priscilla and his health problems were just beginning, but none of that showed as Elvis sang one of the greatest live performances of his career.
The concert was broadcast to over 30 countries and broke all viewing records in the far east and as far as australia. Unfortunatley, this was to be the last Elvis television special to be ever be broadcast as Elvis passed away only four years later on 16th August 1977.
This concert was so different from his 1968 comeback special as the concert was pure music. Elvis didn't chat as he usually did, he concentated on entertaining the enormous viewing audience with his amazing voice(no pressure !!)
He perfomed his classic songs with passion, the up tempo 'burning love' which focuses on the deeper side of love. This song was released in 1972 and was his biggest 70's hit in the US, 'suspicious minds', another love song about lack of trust, Elvis felt strongly about these songs as he was still hurt by Priscilla and was devastated when she left him for another man .He also included one of his early hits 'hound dog' which he recorded in 1956 when he was just starting out. He also performed his own unique powerful versions of other artist's songs, the sad but beautiful 'you gave me a mountain' about a man and his struggle to find a place in life, the Frank Sinatra hit 'my way' which everyone knows the words to , and the poignant 'I'll remember you' which seems fitting as the world will always remember Elvis. The magnificent and patriotic 'American Trilogy'closed the performance. What a way to end as Elvis sings of his love for his country and immortality . To me it is not really about which songs he sang it is about the way he sings them in his own unique style with his love for music that shines out. The songs have feelings and can reach out and touch you as he sings them so well.
Elvis also paid his tribute to Hawaii by performing some of the songs that were included in the soundtrack of his movie 'Blue Hawaii', which he made in Hawaii in the early 1960's. The beautiful 'Hawaiian wedding song' and the title track 'Blue Hawaii'.
I believe that Elvis was the greatest live performer. The songs that he sang in Hawaii in 1973 still contain the same magic now as they did then. Watch the concert now and the passion and love for music that Elvis possessed is clear to see. This concert was ground breaking and was the first of it's kind to be globally broadcast by satellite and I don't think ever will again.
Advantages: Ful concert plus bonues songs, amazing permormance, great sound quality Disadvantages: None!
On the 14th January 1973, Elvis Presley gave a show at the Honolulu International Centre (in aid of the 'Kui Lee Cancer Fund', that would be beamed around the world, via satellite. It was seen by nearly one and a half BILLION people. The show in which Elvis threw his 1000$ cape into the crowd.
This cd included every song recoreded live from the concert and there are also the additional songs recorded for the american version e.g. Ku-u-i-po and Hawaain ... ...considering how old the recording is and the sound is first class. The digital remasterers earned their fee with this one.
My view: Simply brilliant! It is an absolute pleasure to be able to listen to one of the greatest talents ever to walk the earth in his prime. I have never seen anything that is even comparable to this, the concert itself its breathtaking with amazing performances of classics such as Suspicious Minds, Hound Dog and Blue Suede ...

Advantages: The King At His Best Disadvantages: None
When I heard that Aloha was going to be reedited I was a little bit skeptical. However I can confirm that the job that Elvis Presley Enterprises has done is superb.
We get 2 discs packed full of features, you get 17 minutes of Elvis arriving in Hawaii on the 9th January. It is nice to see the King interacting with the asembled crowds.
We then get the rehearsal concert and the main concert reedited from scratch will all new camera angles and improved ... ...new concert.
Disc 2 starts with all the takes of the extra song elvis recorded for insertion into the American broadcast of the show. We see a very tired but extremely professional Elvis doing his best to get the job done.
The disc ends with the original broadcast as it was seen in America in April 1973. A very nice touch.
If anyone has any doubts don't go get this set today you won't be disappointed. ...

Advantages: Some great songs from the world's greatest performer Disadvantages: None
ALOHAFROMHAWAII is the soundtrack CD for the television special Elvis made in January 1973. The show was the first ever music concert broadcast live around the world via satellite, and was watched by an audience of over 1 billion people. The show was a fund-raising benefit to raise money for the Kui Lee Cancer Fund and amazingly the event raised over 3 times the estimate, making $75,000 for the fund. Although this sounds small for an event of this kind in this day and age, in 1973 this was a huge sum, and very surprising.
The 25th anniversary CD features the full concert from 14 January 1973, and in addition it features a bonus 5 songs Elvis recorded after the concert, which were added to the US broadcast version of the show. At this time in his live shows Elvis was including an awful lot of chat in addition to his songs, much ...
Advantages: Probably his Greatest Performance Disadvantages: None Really
This in my humble opinion is the king at his absolute majestic best. He never looked better, he never sounded better, and the mix of old and new numbers is, well , inspired!
Date line January 14th 1973, the much maligned 'Colonel' has had an idea to make a World wide telecast using the brand new 'satalite' technology. Elvis will perform some of his greatest numbers as well as some newer tracks to a WORLD WIDE audience LIVE!!! At a rehursal show (also available on cd) Elvis has already recorded the whole show plus a handful of 'Hawaiian' trcks incase of a technical breakdown. The show will be performed infront of a live audience in Elvis's spiritual home of Hawaii. The audience have paid whatever they thought fit for their tickets and far from raising the target of $25,000 the fans have collectively paid some $75,000 for the honour ...

Album Notes
Personnel includes: Elvis Presley (vocals); J.D. Sumner And The Stamps, Kathy Westmoreland and The Sweet Inspirations (background vocals). Producer: Joan Deary. Compilation producers: Ernst Mikael Jorgensen, Roger Semon. Recorded live at the Honolulu International Center, Honolulu, Hawaii on January 14, 1973. Includes liner notes by The RCA Records Label and photos. All tracks have been digitally remastered. "Blue Hawaii," "No More," "Ku-u-i-po," "Hawaiian Wedding Song," and "Early Morning Rain" did not appear on the original version of ALOHA FROM HAWAII VIA SATELLITE. Throughout the late-'60s and early-'70s, Elvis Presley and his manager Colonel Tom Parker staged a series of media events designed to keep Elvis in the spotlight. The NBC comeback television special, Elvis' return to live performance, and a four-show run at Madison Square Garden (with a live album released one week after the final concert) were all publicity coups that focused national attention on the King. Each, however, required that the next event be even larger and more spectacular. This is certainly the thinking that motivated ALOHA FROM HAWAII VIA SATELLITE, a concert broadcast live to the Pacific and (one day later) to Europe (the show did not air in the U.S.until several months later). A reported one billion viewers tuned in, undoubtedly making the ALOHA show the single-most watched concert of all time. ALOHA is a mix of rockers, quiet ballads, and bombastic pop, all performed with full-throttle energy and emotion. This edition of ALOHA includes for the first time several Hawaiian-flavored songs recorded immediately after the concert, to be used on the soundtrack of the U.S. broadcast. Also among the after-hours batch of songs is Elvis' version of Gordon Lightfoot's "Early Morning Rain."
