Alone In Japan Live - Graham Parker

Advantages: Good selection of songs through the bands early career
Disadvantages: A few decent songs missing, Lyrics are pretty much genre standard

...The American heavy metal band Dokken are a great band to check out for anyone into over the top shred, catchy melodies and general 80sness. Featuring virtuoso guitarist George Lynch's awesome solos and great hit songs such as "Into the fire", "alone again" and "breaking the chains" this is a decent album to get for someone wanting to check out the band as this really is a top set list. The album is all recorded live at Tokyos Kosei Nenkin hall, and despite it being a live album which may raise issues of sound quality and band tightness etc, with such accomplished musicians as these this is not really an issue and you get a sense of the electric atmosphere as well as Georges solo chops that he is world reknown for. There are a few songs I would have liked to have seen on here such as Dream Warriors and another big hit that is missing Just... Read review

...Deep Purple's Made In Japan album is a great document to the power of the band live and at thier peak. Once upon a time this album was considered one of the classic live albums of all time but now due to psychedelic influences at the time of making the album this collection seems somehow dated. Although there is quality material on like 'Highway Star' or 'Smoke On The Water' songs such as the usually brilliant 'Space Truckin' are dragged out to almost 20 minutes, and 'Stragen Kind Of Woman (once a three minute song) takes up 10 minutes. The awful excesses if 70's hard rock then comes screaming to the fore. This rerelease features an extra CD containing 'Black Night' and 'Speed King' and a great cover of Little Richard's 'Lucille'. When it first came out Made In Japan was essential listening but today there are far more worthy things... Read review

...of the Jacksons hit and is given a great makeover and was a club favourite. 3.Everbody - This single sold over 300,000 copies in this country alone and reached no.5 in 1995. It's very HI-NRG and is one of ther best tracks to date. It an original song of thier own. 4.Time goes by - This was released only in Japan in 2000 (where clock are huge) and never made it over here, which is such a tradegy as this is their best. It has fast vocals with an incredible beat behind it, truely awesome. Another origianl song. 5.That's the way - A cover of KC&the sunnshine bands hit and is reworked to perfection. It reached no.11 in 1998, and was a huge hit in the clubs. 6.Sunshine day - This was thier last release in the UK and reached a pathetic no.55, there is no justice. It's a cover of osisbisa hit from the 70's, and once again covered brilliantly. 7.Everbody jump... Read review
