From Despair To Where?
Review of Everything Must Go - Manic Street Preachers by darkangelwing

Advantages: Polished perfection, Welsh lyrical craftsmenship, Driving rock beats and some mellow wonders, Why the manics are my second fave. band
Disadvantages: Nothing except the hauting calling for Richey James Edwards

...I recall renting this album as a tape from the local library those were the days where you could borrow any tape or cd on your library card for 50p or so, I set straight to work on the task of copying it onto a blank tape with the help of my sister and it became my most listened to tape back then pure musical perfection in every sense of the word. I recall this album being on the jukebox inside the climbing wall at Plas-Y-Brenin outdoor centre in Capel Curig I always used to go there because being a member of the Chester Mountaineering Club we got great discounts on the gear as well as the walls. Nothin like having the room to yourself playing 'Australia' full blast traversing around the room to the beat, hell I remember somehow making my way around the fire escape on a 'chimney' type climbing technique. I remember that the song I... Read review

Meet Fanny, the Pioneering Women's Rock Band
Review of First Time In A Long Time (The Reprise Recordings) - Fanny by zerbine28

Advantages: Superb music by the first great female.rock.band to go mainstream.
Disadvantages: No lyrics. Band members don't get a penny from this anthology.

...themselves any personal lives. Alas, to their extreme disadvantage, they'd also paid little heed to the business aspect of their careers while working their behinds off. In the beginning, though, things looked pretty bright. The band finally decided to go with the name, 'Fanny', based on June's suggestion of assuming a girl's name. Richard Perry concurred, as his grandmother had the same name. [***This sets the story straight as regards the totally false, widely published rumour that Beatle George Harrison gave them their monicker (and there's a randy joke in there that has to do with British slang!)***.] When 'Fanny', their debut album, came out in 1970, the girls had an average age of twenty, but you wouldn't know it from their professional-grade playing even then. After all, the Millingtons had been on the road since their mid... Read review

How I Lost My Virginity!
Review of Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, The - Pink Floyd by KarenUK

Advantages: Some wonderful tracks and hilarious lyrics...
Disadvantages: Some very weird ones too...

...Gosh, I am being candid with you this week! This time, I have decided to let you in on a secret about my love life. But more on that later. Read on. I have a penchant for cheesy pop. I love Steps, Hear’say, Kylie, Atomic Kitten, Abba, Darius and Will Young. But I also have a darker side to me too and a lot of that is satisfied by the wonderful Pink Floyd. I first discovered Pink Floyd back in 1986 when my First Love (yes, him again) lent me a load of his records. These included a large helping of the Floyd. I listened to The Wall and Comfortably Numb remains my all-time favourite song. Another of his records that he lent to me was this one – Piper at the Gates of Dawn. It must have worked, I currently have fourteen Pink Floyd albums, although most are on tape and so far, I only have three on CD (Echoes, Momentary Lapse... Read review
