Advantages: Wonderful songwriting from one of the best around Disadvantages: Not as good as some previous work due to a couple of weaker songs
...songs from all of the albums by Rufus, not just Want two, and I'd quite happily pay this price for the DVD alone!!! I'd say it was better than the album itself, and well worth watching, and approximately an hour and a half!
This album should be purchased even if it is just for one track, "The Art Teacher", which is performed live on the album, and shows just how talented Rufus truely is! A great Album, with an amazing DVD to go with it, with different songs other than from the album too!
Album track listings:
1)Agnus Dei
Opens with scratching violin. It sounds worse than it is, because violins tend to make me cringe! But have no fear, this is really quite nice. A bizarre use of instruments makes this song sound really quite strange, and eastern, but it is extremely pretty. Rufus Wainwright sings in a language, which I believe may be latin...

The Curate's Eggplant Review ofJourney Through The Secret Life Of Plants - Stevie Wonderby
Skinleopard
Advantages: Contains some classic Wonder and is quite varied in parts Disadvantages: Cannot justify being a double album
...but feel he needed some input from others to add the necessary extra layers the songs and especially the instrumentals are crying out for.
4) Some of the songs and especially the instrumentals may have needed to be so long for the film but they wear out their welcome in this context.
The best way to approach this album is to start with CD 2 which opens with the best three tracks all in a row (Send Out Your Love, Outside My Window and Black Orchid) and then goes into two tracks which juxtapose quite blatant Bach and African influences (Ecclesiastes and Kesse Ye Lolo De Ye) which I think really work well together especially when followed by the lovely Come Back As A Flower) after that it peters out a bit for me but I would say that these six tracks alone make the album worth having if the price is right.
CD 1 is far too bloated for my liking...

Rufus the star! Review ofRufus Wainwright - Rufus Wainwrightby
Museness
Advantages: A fun album, jolly tunes, uplifting music Disadvantages: Not much to complain about, some slower tracks perhaps
...Wainwright's voice being at it's very strongest! Another of the best songs on the album, in my opinion. Fantastic!
4)In My Arms
A great opening to the song, with Rufus singing with no accompaniment, except for a couple of strums on guitar. Suddenly, a female voice is introduced, which is used to harmonise with Rufus' voice! The voice works incredibly well to harmonise with Rufus' and is infact added by Martha Wainwright, Rufus' sister, who is also a solo artist! The highlight of this song is definitely how the two voices work together to form something truely beautiful! A wonderful song!
5)Millbrook
An excitining opening to the song with string melody. Rufus then begins to sing and to play the piano. The song is quite exciting, and extremely good with the instrumental ending also, making the song feel bouncy with some pizzicato (plucking) from...
