Coming from Wigan I was one of the many thousands of people who experienced 'The Verve' at the famous 'Haigh Hall Country Park' performance. I can honestly say in music terms it was one of the best events of my life! Ashcroft himself has spoke of it being an incredible experience. It was always going to be difficult to follow what must be considered one of absolute classic albums of the 9o's 'Urban Hymns' However Ashcrofts solo new release is a must for all old vereve fans and is sheer bliss! The new album, which includes 'Song for Lovers' features his wife Kate Radley playing keyboards and artwork including the couple's new baby!It really is 'songs for lovers'with plenty of ballards and inspiring melodies and lyrics. The track c'mon people was perhaps the only track that seemed not to fit in with the rest of the mood of the album. I especailly enjoyed 'New York'. This was perhaps because it was reminiscent of early Verve materail. Richard, married and a father is definately not the desperate and angry young man from Wigan of the old days. His change in music inspiration in 'Alone with Everybody' reflects his obvious happiness and contentment. Buy it !!!!!
