...In the late 1970's Grace Jones became something of a Disco Diva as she burst onto NewYorks club scenes with Disco hits such as I Need A Man and Do Or Die. However in 1980 following a new record deal with Island Records, home to various Reggae acts, Jones achieved further mainstream recognition with the superb Warm Leatherette album.
Grace Jones shifted musical direction for the Warm Leatherette (1980) project, divulging into a diverse blend of sounds and styles ranging from Reggae, Rock, New Wave, Funk and Soul. The finished results were some of Jones most compelling recording work.
This album was not least aided by the excellent production skills of Chris Blackwell and Alex Sadkin as well as the startling muscians behind her with Sly Dunbar on drums, Robbie Shakespeare on bass guirtars, Barry Reynolds and Michael Chung alternating...

Advantages: The ups, the downs, the shudders, the shakes Disadvantages: The yearning for another tour date
...Double disc heaven if you're a Crows fan. Duritz and company showcase their neverending talents on VH1 Storytellers (disc 1) and the New York City date of the Recovering the Satellites tour (disc 2). This really is one for the already converted.
If you loved August, disc 1 will blow you away - versions of Mr Jones and Anna Begins send shudders down the spine, as ever. But perhaps the secret gem is Angels of the Silences, given a very clever makeover and transformed from roaring electric show-starter to gentle acoustic ballad.
The New York gig stays with more traditional versions of favourites from the Crows' first two albums, but proves just how imperative it is to see these guys live. Murder of One sums up all the reasons why....

..., the fast-tempo songs just don't suit this accent. He has obviously taken this into consideration. possibly the style was experimented with for a while. As much of the Houston rap is slow, and they will all have been exposed to the same way of speaking, the pioneers of Houston rap will have worked this out a while ago and now the popular trend has continued to this generation.
This was his debut and the video for it really opened my eyes to what 'the ghetto' is like in modern society, because most of that stereotypical New York projects life has passed. In Houston 'the ghetto' is just an extremely poverty-stricken area in, (in America). Its amazing that he was able to do the broke-to-bling transformation coming from the place he came from. The video was full of young black men just enjoying what they have in life and what makes them feel happy...
