Advantages: Good drumming, powerful sound
Disadvantages: SOme songs are cheesy

...I bought Iowa by Slipknot as soon as it came out cause i wanted to know if it was gonna be as good as their first cd. The album starts off with the usual weird intro and then launches into the best song on the cd, people=shit, this song is typical slipknot because it has fast drumming and a great guitar riff, the vocals don't really add much but overall it is a great song,then as the album went on i started to notice how many sing along bits and catchy choruses there were on most songs and was a little dissapointed as slipknot had said that this was going to be a really heavy album. Cheesy songs such as "left behind" and "new abortions" should have been left off because they get boring really quick and are very mainstream, they have the fast drumming but the guitar riffs are weak and sound like they were stolen from Slayer,the singer... ...Let me say to start off with, I've been a fan of Green Day for some years. I had this CD on pre-order before it came out, I'd only heard the title track which was played on some Saturday morning, channel 4 program. Green day have come along way from the days of Dookie, but they have never parted with a certain roar energy. I was somewhat surprised to hear people talk about the new Green Day "concept" album. Something I can only recall hard rock bands like Kiss doing, to very poor results. The songs of American Idiot do gel together very well. Many reviews mention the pro or anti American lyics, as I'm not American this subject it's so close to home for me, however Green Day's rile humuor is, as normal, tucked away in the lyics. Advantages: Brilliant album, excellent guitar riffs, makes your head bop!

...Didn't really get into The Libertines when the first album came out, kind of dismissed them as a mediocre indie band. However, having heard "Can't Stand Me Now", the first song on this album and their first single, I decided to buy the album. What follows is a diverse collection of songs, some funny, some sad, that you can listen to whenever. Admittedly it took me a few listens to get into the album. At first the songs sound simplistic, but this is the beauty of the album. Back to basic rock album, reminiscent of The Kinks. I recon my favourite song is "The Man Who Would Be King", one of many of the songs that lead you on a merry trip with a hipnotic guitar riff and drums that guide you along the way. If you don't find your head randomly shaking to the sound of the music you've missed something. Go buy this album!!!... Read review
