...Different Class sums up the album perfectly. At at time when monkeys Oasis and cockney ferrets Blur were banging out bland meaningless tunes and engaging in an industry generated 'Battle of the Bands', Pulp released an album of such magnitude that it still sounds fresh today five years on. Jarvis Cocker brilliantly encapsulates all that it means to be British to so many ordinary people- the disaffected call to arms of 'Mis-shapes', the longing of 'Disco 2000' and the truly riotous scathing attack of an upper-class lover in 'Common People'. Difficult as it is to pick faults in an almost flawless album the breathy vocals and insipid music of 'F.E.E.L.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E.' sadly does nothing for me.
