Advantages: Phat planet Disadvantages: Most of the rest
...Carl Cox is a big beast of a man, but he is also multi talented, as his mix album phuture 2000 shows, it’s a good mix of safe hits and new tunes, I like some of the mixing, but it just does not compare to seing the guy live. I also think that he was tied to choose not what completely what he wanted to play, but what the record company wanted. However I was particularly pleased with his inclusion of leftfields phat planet, as it was never released as a single, and I love that track! Anyway my opinion is do not buy this, go and see the guy live instead, the atmosphere compiled with his choice of tunes is trully amazing!...

Ummmm...... Review ofPhuture 2000 - Carl Coxby

Advantages: Different Disadvantages: Pants
...Cral Cox has been one of my top DJ's ever since he played at the Universe tent in a field in Luton in front of 9,000 people (I use the term "people" very loosely - more like nutters). He raised the roof - and has continued to do so ever since!
Phuture 2000 was a complete let down though. It went straight back on the racks at HMV never to adorn my ever increaseing record collection. I don't know what he was thinking of when he put it together (sorry Carl, it was a bit cack though) but it was on such a weird tanget, it just didn't hit the spot.
It did create a new category though - just plain weird. It was not his usual full on style and will disappoint anybody who is expecting this to be classic Mr. Cox.
If you are looking for something "different" then give it a try. Otherwise ... keep scouring those racks - there's much...

Advantages: It's by the Beatles. Disadvantages: The Beatles weren't always perfect.
...their music self-indulgent and ugly. They weren't the Alpha and Omega of pop, or its fons et origo either. To be honest, when they were bad, they could be very, very bad. Fortunately, the corollary applies: when they were good, they could be very, very good. Miraculously good.
And you can hear examples of both on this album, which was once my favorite album by my favorite band. It wasn't as famous as Sergeant Pepper's, or as long as the White Album, or as disjointed as Let It Be, and it had a cover of classic simplicity and depth. I could look at those four figures striding eternally in bright 'sixties sunshine with the same unfailing interest as I could once listen to the music those four figures had created to accompany that cover. "Come Together" was so compellingly catchy, for example.
But nowadays I know that this was thanks in part...
