Advantages: A great debut album. It sounds like Daft Punk! Disadvantages: Too short ?
...I'm not sure to be at the right opinion, But I write an opinion about Phoenix debut album United.
Phoenix is a french pop-electronic music band.
From the golden area Versailles-Paris. Yet their debut album, "United", sounds like Alex Gopher or Daft Punk's cd's.
Let me tell you their story.
Once upon a time around 1991 (too old!), Thomas Mars (vocals), Deck D'Arcy (bass) and Christian Mazzalai (guitar) were a garage band, performing in pubs and bars, playing covers. End of the first part!
Then in 1997 they hit on the Phoenix name with a punk rock song : "Party time" (re-mixed for United). Another member Laurent Broncowitz joined the band at this time.
About this album :
This Phoenix debut album sounds like a funky-romantic-electronic with slices of Van Halen's guitar and voices.
"Too young" is a funky heavy-metal-moog song...

Advantages: A great powerhouse of a score to reckon with Disadvantages: Incohesive action music not the best way to go about
...to problems with the scoring process (uncontentedness from the studio that is), Kamen was forced to write the score almost completely anew, which resulted in a very atmospheric and low score that made for a pretty uninteresting listen overall. Most unfortunate was that this didn't give the film much of a strong thematic anchor and indeed X-Men was strangely devoid of a proper "superhero" theme (even though the entire film was running wild with one superhero after another). A slight correction came when John Ottman was hired for X2: X-Men United. For the sequel Ottman completely distanced himself from the previous score and wrote an admittedly very good theme for the heroes. The problem was that Ottman decided to underuse the theme to a significant proportion, rather opting to write some much less than interesting action music that in no way lived...

Advantages: Great foot tapping sing-along tracks Disadvantages: /
...If you have seen the film Walk the Line starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon and loved the music in the film then you may want to buy the soundtrack as it is just as great. & even if you haven't seen the film but love great foot tapping country/ Rock 'n' Roll songs with some slower country/blues ballads mixed in then this may be for you too.
I thought the film was absolutely amazing and so went out and bought the soundtrack the very next day. I have loved Johnny Cash's music for a long time but do not have any of his cd's. One of the great aspects of the film was that the singers all did their own singing and nobody mimed a word. Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon are so convincing as Johnny Cash and June Carter that when I put the cd on, it could almost be the real thing.
Tracks:
1. Get Rhythm - sung by Phoenix...
