... Her album 'Alright, Still' was released in July 2006, and it is actually quite good. It reached number 2 in the album charts selling over 900,000 copies, making it a triple platinum hit.

easily dismiss the rise of Lily Allen as an act of backroom nepotism, talent-free starlet helped to the stage by the right connections. One listen to her debut album Alright, Still, dispels any doubts about young Ms Allen's star quality. Possessed of a feisty wit and taste for urban storytelling that should see her compared to Mike "The Streets" Skinner, these eleven tracks of sunshine-friendly reggae pop cover topics including frustrating potential closing-time suitors ("Knock `Em Out"), being happy when your ex is having a bad time ("Smile"), and having a little brother who likes a bit of a smoke--and not just of the tobacco variety ("Alfie"). Wisely, however, Allen doesn't let the grittiness of the subject matter tarnish the golden pop suss of the songs, a suite of gleaming productions by names including Mark Ronson and Gwen Stefani collaborator Greg Kurstin that take inspiration from at the lighter end of reggae and vintage rocksteady. Doubtless some corners of the press will pillory her as a poor role model, but there's an engaging honesty to the likes of "LDN" - a love song to a city filled with teenage muggers, pimps and crackwhores, narrated by someone who's cycling because "the filth took away my license". Like father, like daughter .--Louis Pattison

Advantages: Good catchy tunes Disadvantages: Some songs are very short
Now, for those of you are familiar with my 'Top 10 things that annoy me' review, you would be forgiven for thinking 'Why the blinky blonky is he reviewing the album by someone in his top10 most annoying things'. To be honest, I don't really know how I came to put this album on my ipod. I had a long trip ahead of me and wanted some new music to listen. Now, I've had Lily on my iTunes for a year or so, and thought that that was the best place for it ... ...way of my ears, leaving me alone, thank you very much. I was always the first one to protest about how annoying and down right, blummin immature I thought that this girl was, due to the nature of her lyrics along the lines of 'haha I'm better than you, now you're upset and I think it's brilliant'...ahhh the youth of today. I thought she was a brat, after the stories of her being expelled from 50,000 private schools (ok, ok, I don't think it was THAT ...

Lily Allen was one of the acts to make it big last year amidst a great deal of hype and an infectious catchy summer single called Smile. Allright Still was the album release that followed on from this and was one of the presents I bought my daughter for Xmas this year.
I have to be honest I did not expect to like this album but actually it was not as bad as I expected it to be however it does have the slight feel of bubblegum pop and I'm fairly ... ...stereo it will soon find itself in the cabinet at home as although the songs are catchy on the whole they lack substance or any real quality to make them a regular feature of my listening repertoire.
Much of the hype surrounding Ms Allen is down to her reasonably famous father comic Keith Allen who although hardly a household name he is popular with the red tops after his forays into the football song genre with Vindaloo which had awful lyrics but ...

Advantages: Alfie, Smile, LDN, Take What You Take, Not Big Disadvantages: Lily trying to rap and sometimes seemingly talking.
Lily Allen is the daughter of the famous comedian Kieth Allen and has taken the UK by storm. Not only has she had this amazing number 2 album, but she has had many nominations for the Brit Awards and has won many awards. As well as this, she now has her own chat show, Lily Allen And Friends, on the TV channel BBC3. It all started with MySpace, and this girls music is too very modern. So why exactly have I given Alright, Still 4 stars?
Lily's debut ... ...had everyone singing, Smile is a cheeky, catchy song with lyrics with the same description. It is fun in every way, and one thing that must be said is although she does not have the most talented voice, this girl sure has talent and her voice is refreshing and relaxing to listen to.
The second track is Knock 'Em Out. This is the song of which the lyrics have been quoted for the album name, where a male tells a girl that she looks 'Alright Still'. ...

Advantages: Catchy Music and Lyrics Disadvantages: Immature Writing
...last year with this album Alright Still. Making herself famous for her girly/chav dress sense, apparently catchy tunes, and her extreme honestness.
Lily Allen seems immature and will probably appeal alot more to teenager girls then to anybody else. This is clearly reflected by the music and lyrics. Lily writes about many a topics which all seem to reflect her honest attitude. Famous for slagging off other artists that are better at what they do ... ...some point.

Advantages: great lyrics, easy to listen to, can identify with Disadvantages: not for everyone, a bit too simple at times
I have been an avid follower of Lily Allen since her appearance on the music scene and the frankly brilliant video for Smile. The album is a perfect mix of music with angelic vocals doing something best described as "urban storytelling". Alright, Still is a very personal album, you can feel the personal references in almost every song, though some seem to be dedicated to people in general, mostly girls though. In this aspect, the album is a very ... ...in her songs, singing about real-life situations that feel like giving examples rather than generalising about them.
Smile, the first and probably most famous track, is a friendly yet bitter story of a girl rejected by a boy and wanting to get her own back at him. The brilliant "when I see you cry, it makes me smile" line says it all. All girls can identify with this.
Knock 'Em Out is amazing lyrics-wise. Simplicity is sometimes best, and this ...

Album Notes: 'Alright Still' is the debut album from comedian Keith Allen's daughter Lily Allen. Taking inspiration from her London surroundings and the music collection of her parents, Allen delivers a mix of ska, punk, hip-hop and rock with a hefty dose of pop. The album includes the extremely limited 7" single 'LDN' as well as 'Smile'.
