Album Notes: A concept record loosely based on the events at the Rolling Stones' notorious 1969 Altamont Speedway perfomance, ALTAMONT DIARY finds the electronica/rock duo Black Cab offering up intriguing songs such as \"Summer of Love,\" \"Good Drugs,\" and \"Killing.\"
Advantages: Great intelligent heavy grungy hardcore, that makes you want to explore more of their music Disadvantages: Some of the songs may be an aqqired taste; but then again i see that as a good thing. Most other Hard music will seem simple afterwards
...The Melvins are a grunge/hardcore/sludge-core band from Washington D.C who formed around 1980 by Buzz Osborne, Matt Lukin and Mike Dillard. Their current lineup consists of Singer/Guitarist Buzz Osborne A.K.A. King Buzzo (also of Fantômas, Venomous Concept, and the original incarnation of Nirvana; Fecal Matter), and Drummer Dale Crover (also of Fecal Matter, Altamont, and Men of Porn). The band integrate many of the musical concepts of Black Flag's 'My War' era...

...and dropped some acid, then got on with the business of making a record, but remember this was 1968! Paris was burning, the boys from 'Nam were handing in their Purple Hearts, and the rotten administration of Lyndon B Johnson was quaking. All this going on at the time of Altamont, the Kent State shootings and the show trials of the Black Panthers, as the US establishment lashed out at anything resembling a threat to itself.... I am getting a little off the beaten track so sermon over, back to this remarkable collection of songs.
There are only six tracks on this album, but it lasts for 44 minutes, so that should give you some idea of what is going on here, and what is going on here is sparse, light and loose freeform jazz-rock-com-improv that you will never hear anything like on any other record.
Strange Feeling gets the ball rolling...
