Advantages: Brilliant choice of material, expertly performed Disadvantages: None
...It would be difficult to find a better traditional British folk record than this. JuneTabor's career was at its artistic peak when she recorded this in 1983, and in my opinion her voice has never come across on record as good as this, either before or since.
She has achieved a fine balance of traditional and contemporary (songs by Bill Caddick, Lal Waterson and Joni Mitchell) material, and even where the songs weren't written especially for her, she makes it sound as if they were.
The opener, trad song "The Month of January" sets the standard: Tabor's vocals over delicate, unobtrusive background instruments - a major plus factor for the entire disc.

Advantages: Great Johnny & June CD, Some Great Country Favourites Disadvantages: Some tracks to short, some too slushy!
...with this ditty of a tune. It's a tune that gets your feet tapping, it really could get you up and dancing if you were that way inclined! Johnny & June have seperate verses which they sing indivudally. I have to say again, the effortlesss vocal abilities of the couple are again obvious again. June is pretty much second fiddle to Johnny though in this song which is a shame because what she does sing, she really is good at. I like this song, it has a wide reaching appeal I feel & it is so catchy,I found myself singing along after a few plays.

Nineteen songs appear on the re-released version and treat you to a time when the Pogues were a breath of fresh air in the increasingly fashion conscious post punk era of the mid eighties. Buy it, play it load and dance like there is no tomorrow. It may be folk music essentially but its folk music that goes for the jugular....
