I have been meaning to write this review for a while now but haven't got round to it until today, so sorry for the lateness folks. But I'm sure most of you will have heard it by now so at least you'll know what I'm talking about.

George Michael was one of the definitive stars of the 1980s and early 1990s. He began in Wham! with Andrew Ridgely and had several hits, including I'm Your Man, Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, Club Tropicana and Freedom. There was never any doubt that he was talented and had the ability to go it alone, and so it was no surprise when he did. He had hits such as Faith and Too Funky before disappearing from the music scene for a while. His reemergence, following a change of image, in the late 1990s spawned hits such as Star People and Fast Love. However, his music since then has been politically motivated and less than appealing to me I have to say. I can't remember a song of his that I have liked in the past few years, although I have to say the animated video of Bush walking Blair the dog made me laugh and sums a lot up... Moving on...

When I first heard Amazing I was pleasantly surprised. George himself said on Parkinson that he usually writes and releases 'I'm so miserable' songs, and that is what he has become known for, until this song. Amazing celebrates love and being in love. It is a lovely upbeat and positive tune that leaves me feeling happy, until I've heard it on the radio too much! The lyrics are quite simple but catchy: 'I think its amazing/The way that love can set you free.' It's about the hope of finding that someone when you least expect it. It really is a feel good tune. Even if you hate the song the rhythm is really catchy an you will find your foot tapping to it.

It is the first single from the album Patience, which George released on the 15th March this year. The single was released by Sony, the label he publicly fell out with a few years ago (!), on the 1st March. It comes on 2 CDs, both of which RRP at £3.99 but I have seen them cheaper in HMV. They are readily available. Both CD cases have a picture of George and his partner's wedding bands, engraved with the word 'Amore'. CD 1 has Amazing and a remix of Freeek! on it, and CD 2 contains the radio edit and 2 remixes of Amazing. The remixes are good, but I would have liked a DVD-Rom feature on it or something.

It is one of my favourite songs at the moment and will be on the compilation CDs I am making for my holiday. This isn't quite as good as his best material, but I don't think its far off. It is an original song written by George himself and will definitly be on my list of favourite George tracks.
