...mediocre and rather uninteresting to my tastes to warrant much attention from me. And although this did open a new fan base for the more contemporary-inclined music fans, my preference for the sound of a fullsome symphony orchestra caused me to rather avoid the composer's works altogether. Little did I expect then that Newman would eventually compose one of the most sublime modern scores I have heard in a long while. Angels in America is based on Tony Kushner Pulitzer-prize winning stage play, first performed on Broadway in 1993. In 2003, HBO took the play and transformed it into a mini-series in two parts (Millenium Approaches and Perestroika) under the direction of Mike Nichols and starring such actor-heavyweights as Al Pacino, Meryl Streep and Emma Thompson. Advantages: Brilliant debut album, high quality songwriting, good variety of songs

...This is a stunning debut album from the innovative and talented band from Cambridgeshire. The album starts with the teen angst anthem 'Human Punk'. It's filled with anger and energy and Seymour Glass sings with such sincerity that one listen to this song and you'll be hooked. The best song on the album is without a doubt 'Talk Hard'. It's a great, and incredibly catchy song about achieving what you want out of life. Another song you must hear is the self-titled Miss Black America, the crowds favourite if you're ever fortunate enough to see them live. The theme that runs throughout this album is independence and freedom. It is specifically aimed at teenagers and projects the message 'do what you want with your life'. If you're a troubled teen, or can remeber what it was like to feel trapped as one, this album is for you. Go... Read review

Advantages: a faultless pop album
Disadvantages: peoples perception of Supertramp

...Somewhere between the angry chaos of punk and the short lived glamour of disco the public in 1979 found time for Supertramp and their irresistable blend of adult themed rock with an emphasis on intelligent pop ,the bands sixth studio album finally delivered what the band had been promising for most of the seventies,with "Breakfast in America "they managed to hone their individual sensibilities to a near perfect blend ,ripe for American radio and Top of the Pops and shaking off their reputation for over indulgent pomp in the process,their previous two hits "Give a little Bit" and "Dreamer" hinted an intelligent humorous pop group in the vein of ,say, 10cc ,but real mainstream success had aluded them up to this point .
