Live in America Live in America
The downside of declining CD-manufacturing costs is that artists feel free to put out even ... more
their most ephemeral musical musings. Victor
Wooten's Live in America, though full of masterful
moments, has chaff amongst the wheat. There's
stage patter that might have been fun if you were
there, slight 1970s pop-funk ("What Did He Say"
and "Hormones in the Headphones"), disco ("Yinin'
and Yangin'") and Hendrix and Ozzy quotes in order
to get to instrumentals such as "Sacred
Silence/The Jam Man" and "Miller Time" (featuring
Marcus Miller), which offer the kind of soulful
and mind-altering bass guitar work that the man
does best. Wooten is a willful eclectic and, as
his work with Bela Fleck proves, that can be fine.
Still, though the musicians do a workmanlike job
here, it takes a band of equal virtuosos such as
the Flecktones, and some serious editing to make
this kind of genre-hopping truly work. His
bandmates refer to him as "The Teacher" in his
introduction and Live in America should inspire
bass students to practice. It is to be hoped it
will teach them the dangers of self-indulgence
too. --Michael Ross

Advantages: There is not one song on this Doubble CD that is Bad
Disadvantages: none

...This is the kind of sound track that makes you want to be alive in the 1960's. Every track is a well known one that covers every emotion. we call all relate to forrest gump and his live . pahaps not so dramaticaly but in a sence that all of us have a sound track to our own lives. This gives you a sence of the real America. the Mamas and the Papas are calafornia dremmin while jefforson Airplain are becvomming Volunteers of America. Every sound track has a purpose in the history of America and it should sit on your shelves next to your history books. not to gather dust but to be worn out. Buy Buy Buy!!!!... Read review

God Bless Miss Black America!
Review of God Bless Miss Black America - Miss Black America by symptom_recital

Advantages: Brilliant debut album, high quality songwriting, good variety of songs
Disadvantages: None!!

...This is a stunning debut album from the innovative and talented band from Cambridgeshire. The album starts with the teen angst anthem 'Human Punk'. It's filled with anger and energy and Seymour Glass sings with such sincerity that one listen to this song and you'll be hooked. The best song on the album is without a doubt 'Talk Hard'. It's a great, and incredibly catchy song about achieving what you want out of life. Another song you must hear is the self-titled Miss Black America, the crowds favourite if you're ever fortunate enough to see them live. The theme that runs throughout this album is independence and freedom. It is specifically aimed at teenagers and projects the message 'do what you want with your life'. If you're a troubled teen, or can remeber what it was like to feel trapped as one, this album is for you. Go buy... Read review

Is this Razorlight's greatest hits possibly?
Review of Razorlight - Razorlight by dazmatron616

Advantages: Best track - Who needs love
Disadvantages: Worst track - Pop song 2006

...to their 2nd single off the album 'America'. In a way I think this is a copy of Rammstein's 'Amerika'. One reason for this is because in America he says, "All my life, been living in America" and Amerika says, "We're all living in America". It is still a very good track. Once I got more into the album I took a shine to 'Who needs love?'. I think it has some of the best lyrics in such as, "who needs love? who needs a heaven up above?". Quite good for such a negative song, I think this may be because the melody is still quite cheerful. Good piano use throughout the song, its only chords but is effective to the song. The rest of the songs do have mixed feelings but the other songs are the main tracks to look out for and have a good listen. I would also recommend listening to 'Kirby's house' The only track I don't like is 'Pop songs 2006'. It... Read review
