Album Reviews: Rolling Stone (10/14/93, p.117) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...On AMERICAN CAESAR'S 16 tracks, the protopunk rocker reclaims the slashing, psychedelic-tinged grunge rock he helped pioneer as a Stooge and takes an uncomprimising confessional jaunt through loneliness, hatred, jealousy, paranoia and ultimately, love...."
Advantages: Rocks on full of power and enthusiasm with witty lyrics Disadvantages: Lyrics might be a bit repetitive on some of the choruses.
...Skull Ring is one of the best IggyPop albums in my opinion. It's amazing to think how old he was, when this album was made and to put so much energy and power into it is simply phenomenal. Every song on the album just bombs along with raw power! Superbabe, Motor Inn, Little Electric Chair and Nervous Exhaustion are just legendary anthems. This is probably Iggy's heaviest album ever and he pulls it off easily, some of the songs don't have the same effect live as on the album, they definitely did a good job on the recording of the songs.
If you just want one IggyPop album, I would choose this or Raw Power everytime but this shouldn't undermine his other albums which are also great fun....

Advantages: Part of the musical history of "David Bowie" Disadvantages: A bit to much input from "David Bowie"
...In between the release of the 2 seminal Bowie albums “Low” and “Heroes”, David Bowie got together with IggyPop to record what would turn out to be the most significant albums of Iggy career in my humble opinion.

On September 9th 1977 “Lust for Life” was released, running at just under 42minutes and just having 9 tracks, with it’s opening track that barks into life with it’s musical themes stolen by Bowie from the tune that introduced the American overseas radio network in Germany.
But with the words of Iggy it became something else that was so much more threatening, so much so that the song with forever...

Iggy Lands! Review ofStooges, The - Stooges (The)by
mongo_bongocat
Advantages: A record of energy, excitement and wah wah. Disadvantages: For some the aural assault is all too much
...I came to this record via a backwards route. I initially bought the greatest hits of IggyPop and liked it so much (especially the early stuff he did with the Stooges) that I had to investigate further. I'm very glad I did. This is a powerhouse of a debut from Iggy, the Asheton brothers and Dave Alexander.
1969
-------
The mood in 1969 (when this album was released) was a hotbed of tension and experimentation. The sixties bubble was becoming bloated and unstable. Maniacs were aligning themselves with the good-time bands of the day (the Mansons reading far too much into the Beatles riddles and the Hells Angels rioting at the Stones gig in Altamont). Since 1967 the Stooges had been ploughing their own furrow alongside another Michegan band of the same ilk (the MC5). The more established MC5 regarded The Stooges as their kid brother band...
