According to many websites Green Day brought 1970s punk rock back in the '90s. Green Day is a Californian band, with their first album hit being 'Dookie' in 1994.
~Where I got it...~
I got this album off Bittorrent P2P site SuprNova.org, before it was shut down. It is available on the new Exeem (http://exeem.com) P2P network under the URL:

Still, this isn't a place for illegal downloads so be a good person and download it off iTunes or MyCokeMusic.com .
~Songs~
American Idiot
If you don't already know this song it last for around 3mins and is all about America. It is quite fast and holds a great rhythm. It says about Americans being idiots and paranoid. It also claims that they are: 'controlled by the media’. This song is a perfect example of the Green Day style.
-
Jesus Of Suburbia
This song is relatively gentle with a easy flowing beat and rhythm for the first two minutes, then it changes to a Good Charlotte style tune, the tunes shifts around, and you
see why when you see it lasts 9MINUTES, yes 9MINUTES. It switches to a very hard tune after around 4minutes. Switching back to the original tune style after about 5mins. The music merges very well, but at the end of the hard area it sounds as though it's the end of the song, and it's quite disorientating. I can't really pick up on the lyrics, but I think it's about life in the suburbs. In the last minute it goes hard again.
-
Holiday
Hearing the beginning of this 4minute hit you wouldn't think it's Green Day, it's too popish. Nevertheless, it gets thicker and more Green Dayish after 1:30 mins and secs. The song also gets more political, with references to the Rep of California in the U.S. Congress.
- Boulevard Of Broken Dreams
Another top single. This song is far more moany and slow than the other songs. This tune also last 4minutes. This one is surprisingly not remotely political, but I believe it's about Billy's loneliness.
-
Are We Waiting
This song relates to Jesus of Suburbia. Again... it's very...very...slow and moany. It only lasts 2 and a half minutes. After inspecting the lyrics it appears to be cities looks and appearance. There are only 169 words in the whole song!
-
St Jimmi
Now, this is Green Day, upbeat...fast! It lasts about 3mins, but far more is jammed into it. You can't resist moshing your head towards to this song! However, on examining the lyrics you go slightly off the song as it's about crime and city life.
-
Give Me Novoaine
Very...very...slow and the start, eventually merging into Green Day coolness. I don't really understand this song, but it refers to the other tunes a little.
-
She's A Rebel
This song is so.... so... Green Day! The song is obviously referring to a rebellious girl. The song only lasts for 2minutes (exactly, by the second). The song also refers to Whatsername, the last track. The strange thing is it also says she's a saint.
-
Extraordinary Girl
This song start's off as an awful jungle nature beat, eventually going into a slightly more Green Dayish tune. This refers to the girl in the previous song. It last for 3:34.
-
Letterbomb
The start is funny saying:
Nobody likes you... Everyone left you... They're all out without you... Having fun...
The song then goes into a great Green Day tune; the song refers to corruption, unemployment and other political aspects of ilfe. It also refers to the St Jimmi and Jesus of Suburbia. And city life, like all other tracks.
-
Wake Me Up When September Ends
This track is all about the sadness of summer ending. This song is also a sombre account of their career. It also seems to refer to how fast years go, it's quite hard to understand the lyrics so please gimme mercy.
-
Homecoming
Darn... another nine minutes, this song has many key features in the story the album is supposed to tell, including St Jimmi becoming dead. This song falls half way between gentle and Green Dayish, as the instruments are quite hard, but quiet, and the vocals rather slow.
The tune, as in Jesus of Suburbia changes.
-
Whatsername
The last track.... at last, my op is nearly over. The song last for about 4mins and is rather gentle, this is the end of the story. It seems to say about the girl who's the rebel and he is trying to forget her memory.
~Conclusion~
Some of the tunes aren't great, but some are. It seems to tell a story or a quest (as claimed by some forums). If you're into Green Day music, this is a must, otherwise perhaps not...

I would have liked to know a bit more about the overall content of the album (i have this and I think it's great) and maybe a bit of a reference about the album being their statement against the american government rather than just one or two songs being about war and stuff. emma x

its a great album i must say but my only real nit-pick is why you use the term 'green dayish' to describe the music. well of course it sounds like green day, it is them. theres only so much you can do with 1 guitar, 1 bass and a drumkit in order to osund new and fresh. actual description of the music would of pulled the review off better. oli
