This is a long awaited return to the brilliance last seen on 'nimrod'.
'American Idiot' musically could have come from any Green Day album since 'Kerplunk', however lyrically it is a step-up and a shift into a political outlook.
'Holiday' is another politically minded track that features a simple riff that could have come of off a track from 'Warning'.
'Jesus of Suburbia' and 'Homecoming' are the masterpieces off of this album. both are over 9 mins long, and feature many different styles of guitar, and drums - these two songs alone make the album worth buying.
'Wake me up When September Ends' is a ballad that almost compares to the great 'Good Ridance (Time of Your Life)' and deserves more credit than it has been given in a lot of reviews.
The other tracks including 'Extrodinary Girl', are all brilliant and this deserves to rank up there along with 'dookie' as one of their greatest albums.

Quite simply, this is a brilliant album harking back to the rock operas that bands of the 70s and 80s used to release. I've been listening to it daily for the last month. Funny thing is, I think Boulevarde of Broken Dreams is the weakest song on the album, yet it's been a huge hit here in Australia. Speaks volumes for the rest of the album I suppose. Damien
