The Offspring Americana

The offspring have been around a while, but earlier albums (such as smash) were far lesser known before the release of this album! This is the album that put the Offspring from localised fame to global recognition! They combine the use of excellent lyrics with superb soundtracks to form songs that you can relate to and play over and over again! After seeing the Offspring at Wembly resently it is clear how popular they have become, and the effect they can have on a huge audience that equals the likes of U2, Greenday and other hugely succesful groups!

*The playlist*There are 13 tracks on the album sorted into an order that mixes all the different types of song together! The complete list is:

*songs in more detail*The Offspring unleashed three songs from their album upon the British charts! First was Pretty fly ( for a white guy). This was the song that gave The Offspring their first success within these shores! It broke the ice with the public and saw the catchy song and even better video to number 1! They then released the only slow song on the album! Why don't you get a job also proved very popular with the public and also helped to push the album up the charts! The third chart hit was The kids arn't alright. This finaly put The Offspring firmly in the top 10 album section in all good record stores! The songs are full of quirky lyrics and some of them are funny, where as others are heavy! They are mixed up, but all in all the songs are generally all up pace! You can listen to the album and before you realise it you are at the last track and have lost an hour of your time!

*Listenability*

This album is highly listenable if you can stand fast moving music that takes you on a whirlwind ride around the mind of several confused minds ( not the offspring, just the characters they portray in the songs!) If you are the type of person that has David Bowie in their top 3 playlist this might not be your cup of tea! However if your cd player regularly features the likes of green day, limp bizkit and papa roach then this will be one you will listen to for a solid week before you realise you have other cd's, but even then it will always be close at hand!

*Cover and inlet*

The cover coincides with the humour and yet somehow disturbing thoughts of the album. It features a young kid with a leg brace sitting on a swing with a huge cockroack. The back shows the cockroach holding the boys shoe, while the leg brace lies in a puddle of blood and a pair of tenticles sticking out! There is a picture for every song ranging from kids with guns, fairy's with baseball bats, and blindfolded american football on a pitch of skulls! They are superb pictures that provoke thought!

After listening to their latest effort I have to stick by this album as it is far better! Even my fellow college friends agree that this album is far more sublime than Conspiracy of one! This album has a unique feel to it where as the latter album seems to conform to the record companies "ideal" songs that are aimed at sales and profit! This album shows a side of the Offspring that can be seen at any live gig they play!
