The offspring are one of my all time fave bands ive been listening to these guys when i first heard their smash album. Their high energy songs with fast guitar playing just seems to rock my world.
BACKGROUND: The offspring are a american punk rock band who have been out since the mid 80's, they joined the likes of epitath (a cool record company) who started them on their way, now they are with sony i believe (booo to sony).
SOUND: The offspring are a typical punk rock band which means catchy lyrics, fast guitaring, rocking drum beats and some nice bass lines. They sound a lot like most punk rock bands such as NOFX, BAD RELIGION, MILLENCOLIN, now people say what if i dont know these bands well im sorry but thats who they sound like lol.
THE COVER: On the cover you see a little boy on a swing holding a giant bettle and you knwo someting i have no idea why, but the gaphics on the front cover are cool and rather different from their early albums.
THE TRACKS: On this album you have 13 songs which are
WELCOME (0.09) - offspring started to do introductions to their albums this one is bascailly says "welcome ot americana".
HAVE
YOU EVER (3.56) - im not all that keen on this song the lyrics dont keep my attention, its abit to unhappy for my liking, the guitaring and drums are pretty amazing on this song though.
STARING AT THE SUN (2.13) - this song is amazing the beginning tune rocks my socks off, then the lyrics are upbeat and fun to listen to. The tune is fast paced with nice little slow sections, it goes together really well.
PRETTY FLY (FOR A WHITE GUY) (3.08) - this is a song that made the album well known, the lyrics are arther funny to listen to, the guitar and bass riffs in this song are cool, the tune is upbeat, the drums are alittle boring in this song they seem to be on loop.
THE KIDS AINT ALRIGHT (3.00) - this song was another hit for the offspring and you can hear why, the beginning to this song is amazing, the guitaring is fast and the riff is amazing, the bass line goes well in this song and the drumming fits in nicely too, the lyrics are a little down hearted but the way this song goes is a typical offspring hit.
FEELINGS (2.51) - for some unknown reason they out this song on this album, it does pull the album down in quality, the tune is fast paced but he sings slow, theres some weird backing singing in this song, the guitar riff and drums do get on your nerves in this song.
SHES GOT ISSUES (3.48) - i love this song it is truly amazing, the lyrics are fun and alittle down hearted again, but they are quite amazing, the guitar and bass riff is amazing in this song i love the tune its so catchy, the drums are okay but sometimes they play a really weird noise on them lol it does sound a bit like darth vader been in the background. this was another offspring hit and i would recommend you see the video to this song.
WALLA WALLA (2.57) - another typical fast paced, amazing lryiced offspring song, i really do liek this song the gutiar, drums and bass riff are quite cool and very upbeat and fast, the lyrics are fun and are quite meaningful.
THE END OF THE LINE (3.00) - im not keen on this song its another song thats to down beat for my taste, this is a song where the offspring are trying to be too meaningful, though it does have a nice feel to it i just dont like it.
NO BRAKES (2.06) - another song that i normally skip, its fast and does sound alright but i cant stand the chorus of this song, the tune is rather fast and does sound sweet, the lyrics and how he sings this song ruins it in my own opinion.
WHY DONT YOU GET A JOB? (2.52) - man i do really like this tune the guitaring, bass and drums are amazing this has to be the best album on this song, the lyrics are cool and fun to listen to, how he sings the song is cool to its hard to explain but he sings it well, this song includes one of the jamicain tin music things lol i have no idea what their called but it sounds so cool with all the guitaring drums and trumpets, you really have to listen to this song its fun, with a really cool tune.
AMERICANA (3.15) - i have a buring passion of hate for this song i really dont like it, the guitar tune at the beggining reminds me of old AC DC kind of guitar tunes, this song is out of place on a punk rock album.
PAY THE MAN (10.19) - offspring have turned eygiptian on this song, well thats how it sounds to me lol, the beginning drum beat is rather cool, then the gutiar kicks in and comes out with a smooth riff, the bass is hard to hear, the song goes on for to long, but when it gets into ot this song is a blast, the tune is amazing i love it and the lyrics are cool too, a good song to beat ya head to lol
OVERALL: This like most albums has some amazing songs but then it also has some you wish they hadnt put on, but this is a decent album over all its got some real cool riffs and some rather fast upbeat songs to listen too.
PRICE: I got my copy from track records for £8 though in place like HMV it is alot more, best place to look is some where like CD WOW or even 101 CD or maybe PLAY.COM try
