...SHOPLIFTING by STRAW The music biz circa 2001: boring, lifeless bands backed by corporate whores where every record has to be either: a. A cheesy pop song about love sung by a boy/girl band who have the fake plasticness of Carol Smillie and the personality and wit of Alan Shearer. b. A dull, four minute long acoustic piece of dirge sung by a student band who have no idea what the word chorus means. c. A stupid, lifeless sequence of four chords repeated ad infinitum with some dire vocals over the top. My gravest apologies to fans of Steps, Coldplay, and Feeder (any relation to the above is entirely deliberate), but the truth is that there is so little originality in the music industry these days, nothing with a bit of soul and passion. ...When Now Dance 2000 was released a little over a year ago, I was immediately interested. I knew that the quality of the Now compilations was certainly above average to say the least, and as dance was and is one of my favourite genres of music, it caught my attention almost straight away. After receiving the album for Christmas 1999, I can say that it is one of the best, if not the best compilation album I have ever got. It is vibrant and energetic, and contains so many of the best hits of that year that it really is a must-have. And this one beats it. Now Dance 2001 contains 43 of the best tracks of pure dance from the year 2000 (ironically) across 2 Discs, and features big names such as Bomfunk MC's, Robbie Williams, Sonique and more!
