This is another strange collection of tracks that seems to follow on quite well from Kid A - yet once again, it is not really like anything they have done before. You could never accuse this band of mass producing a sound, that's for sure.
As Kid A was different to OK Computer, and OK different from its predecessor The Bends, so too Amnesiac differs from Kid A. This is no bad thing, and initially the differences aren't that obvious - its true you could be forgiven for thinking that these are the Kid A b-sides that never were. However, after a few solid plays the whole album really starts to make sense and its individuality in the Radiohead album line up is truly realised.
As with Kid A, you are really made to work to appreciate the album, its by no means as play-and-go as the recent offerings of Coldplay or the Stereophonics, but once you get past the surreal sounds and almost-harrowing electro-music you can become immersed in an altogether "far out" musical experience.
The best was to describe this album is to say it's a lot like a marriage. A lot of hard work is involved but its ultimately fulfilling. (NB: consummating marriage vows with a CD may result in prosecution).
Also available is a special edition, complete with a strange mock-library book. I admit complete ignorance most of the time when it comes to Radiohead artwork, but fortunately for me you...er...don’t look at the mantlepiece when you're stoking the fire. <ahem>. A cracking read it isn't, but plenty of RH artwork for you to try and get your head around.

Advantages: It's great! It's mad! It even has a couple of guitars on it... Disadvantages: Should have featured Humph and the band playing Mornington Crescent!
