To be honest I have never been a big fan of the Editors that was until I heard their latest singles on Radio 1. I really liked them and ended up humming along to them all day. I decided to take the chance and buy the album. It was on offer in Woolworths at £7.97 and placed in a prominent position so I didn't really have a choice.
I am glad to say that I have listened to the album, and what an album it is. I would definitely rate it up there with such bands as Muse, Coldplay and Embrace all of which I really enjoy listening to.
There is something strangely hypnotic about the album, I don't know if it's to do with the excellent lyrics, the sound of the instruments or the deep meaningful voice of lead singer Tom Smith. But every time I listen to this album I seem to drift away from all life's little problems and end up gazing out of my window feeling happy and relaxed. I find myself thinking that never before has an album made me feel like this for an extremely long time. We all need an album like this in our collections for those days when we just need to chill and remember how great life really is.

This is the first track on the CD to be released as a single. It is a really good song to feature first on the album as it is what I would call a 'hands in the air, feel good festival classic'. It is embraced even further by the choir halfway through. The lyrics are very powerful and the music gives it that upbeat feel to it. It is definitely a 'festival classic' even if its raining it will still make people feel good
This was the 2nd song to be released as a single. It is a great song to follow Smokers Outside the Hospital Door as this one is a lot more upbeat. This one is another festival classic that will have people dancing and maybe even air guitaring. The lyrics are great and the chorus is so catchy I find myself singing it hours after I have listened to it which to me is a good thing but probably not for the poor people around me ;-)
This song really is a powerful ballad. The lyrics are so strong and meaningful. I really cant imagine anyone else singing this song other than Tom Smith as his voice seems to magnify the beauty of this song and it is helped along greatly by the music itself. It is very similar to the style of Coldplay but to me is much better.
This is a great song to follow track 3 because it picks you back up with its up-tempo music and lyrics. Possibly not a festival classic but one of the songs that will always go down well with the crowd at any live event. It's a really toe tappingly, head noddingly good song.
This song really is hauntingly beautiful, with the piano at the beginning, the gentle tapping of the drums and the soft but hypnotic voice of Tom Smith. You can feel it all coming together and building up for an explosive ending. This really is an excellent song which keeps you captivated all the way through
This is another good song, it is very up tempo and is another hands in the air festival classic. It will leave everyone feeling happy and wanting more, the lyrics and music are really good but it is enhanced more by the piano at the beginning. Toe Tappingly brilliant song.
This is another ballad style song which again is performed beautifully by Tom Smith. Its not his beautiful voice but the military style drumming through the song that somehow makes the song something special, as it builds to an explosive but gentle ending. This is the sort of song that I can imagine people listening to when the sun is setting on a hot summers evening.
This song reminds me of a Coldplay song in places, but that soon changes half way through as the tempo seems to pick up. Tom Smiths voice seems to be magnified as the song progresses to the ending. Somehow it still manages to keep me hooked and in a sort of 'dream state'. This is another live classic.
I really should not like this song due to its title. This song however is another hauntingly beautiful song with very powerful lyrics and uplifting music. The string arrangement throughout the song is what makes it special to me, as it gives it that edge. Only Tom Smith could sing this song, I don't think anyone else could pull it off in this way.
WOW! What can I say about this song apart from this really is the most beautiful but powerful song I have ever heard. The lyrics are out of this world. What makes it even more beautiful is the fact that it is Tom Smith's voice combined with the sound of a piano and guitar playing softly in the background. It is at this point you really realise how hauntingly powerful Tom Smith's voice really is.
I would recommend this album as every song on this album is amazing in its own way and will have a different meaning to everyone. Tom Smith has a truly enchanting, powerful voice and is supported by an excellent team of musicians to produce a great album.
Overall I would give the album a captivating, hypnotic 10/10
