Wow! well, i never really liked Anastacia but i heard her single "left outside alone" on the radio and i thought "bloody hell! its awesome!" so i went and bought it. And it was OK but not great...
The album consists of 12 songs, all featuring her amazing voice (obviously). Perhaps her recent experience of having breast cancer has caused her to think over stuff... mabe it had an effect on her song writing or something?
1 - Seasons Change - The first song on the album starts with a guitar riff that sounds a bit like the Kill Bill song (dont know what its called soz!). It then progresses on and the texture builds up on this riff. The song makes me feel like its about her cancer i dont realy know "it feels like an eternal haze" "but when you're feeling miserable, just know you're not alone" "nothing stays the same" ... its in a minor key but its quite a sort of powerful song. A lot of structure and lots of powerful percussion. I really like this one, and her voice really bangs out the lines! its also got this sort of rappy guy saying "c'mon lets see some change"
2 - Left Outside Alone - I love this one. AND she actually takes her sunglasses off in the video! she looked quite strange without them..... It's Sort of an angry love song. "all my life i've been waiting for you to bring a fairytale my way". Its definitely got a guitarry rocky feel to it. I always want to sing along!
3 - Time - Her voice is sort of sampled into a grimy bit at the beginning. Another guitarry rocky song. I'm not sure what this ones about, maybe the cancer again? "Time keeps running away...... all your yesterdays only a matter of time." Very thought-provoking.
4 - Sick and Tired - Starts with little stringy violiny bit but guitars soon join in. Definitely about hte cancer "i'm sick and tired of always being sick and tired". Her voice shows itself off as usual in this song and theres lots of sampled bits. Also a bit of DJ scratching somewhere in it. I am not too keen on this one.....
5 - Heavy on my Heart - A bit of a ballad. I like this one!
Well I often read some reviews and then buy the CD and think "well i know what happens already in each track from that review i read" and it spoils it. So often in my reviews i just review the first 5 or 6. But hope this review was helpful! Also the next songs arent as good!
VERDICT: i quite liked this album but there are much better out there. I think its worth the tenor or wotever but not worth rushing out to buy!
Also Anastacia is a woman who deserves admiration. She represents so many women who have battled through breast cancer and then tried to continue their careers after, and i think shes done a really good job.
Also its good to sing along to!
