Well....isn't it obvious? Sorry I couldn't resist using such a cool song for my title and it's pretty self-explanatory isn't it?
The diva is back, and not before time either. This latest slice of Anastacia art is welcomed with open arms in my opinion. I've always really liked her voice, she's powerfully gifted vocally reaching ranges beyond comprehension. Talent wise she is limitless in the offerings she brings to us in the shape of her albums. This latest self-titled smash was catapulted into our charts with the release of Left Outside Alone, and more recently, the aptly titled Sick and Tired. It's hard to believe that through all her toil and strife, this woman is one of the top female soloists of the last five years.
Where to start, her vocals are deep and powerful, unlike many of her counter-parts, she has a strong yet strikingly soulful voice. Her eclective albums have also defined her as a somewhat individual artist. Hard to describe her style to be honest, this album is a mix of rock/pop/soul/and r'n'b. But she brings it all together in this bubbling inferno of an album, and she does it with all the refine of a well-defined artist. Her lyrics (mostly self-written) depict her own personal struggles and emotional out-poorings in a way that cannot be described. "I'm sick and tired, of always being sick and tired" taken from the Single of the same name sums up her recent personal feud to a tee. And yet, the strength and vivacity is back, in this her latest cracker of an album. Like a fine wine, her music just seems to improve with the maturity of her young years and squeezes the life out of many other female artists, trying to define themselves in a similar way.
There are unfortunately only 12 spell-binding smashes on this album. They are as follows:
1. Seasons Change 2. Left Outside Alone (Top Ten) 3. Time 4. Sick and Tired (Top Ten) 5. Heavy on My Heart (debut of the album) 6.I Do 7. Welcome to My Truth 8. Pretty Little Dum Dum 9. Sexy Single 10. Rearview 11. Where Do I Belong 12. Maybe Today
Personally there are more than a handful on here that I would recommend for your listening pleasure. To be honest I'd review each song singularly but it would probably take all night.
Left Outside Alone and Sick and Tired are both hard-hitting smash hit type records that are easily predictable as top ten hits. A mix of funky pop/rock and r'n'b, they are each as indivdual as the next. Again, hard to describe if you haven't already heard them before in the charts. Anastacias voice is deep and evocative of emotion, especially on the ballad-esque "Time" and "Heavy On My Heart". Emotionally powerful but will still have you singing along to them. There are a couple of pop/dance tracks on here too, they're all mixed together in this melting pot of an album, incorporating many genres of music and Anastacia adapting her voice more than ever before. The sound is maturer but still throaty and powerful, and the lyrics are true to life written by the woman herself. Not many artists of this calibre left and Anastacia has all the finesse of a legend who will be around for years to come. I'm not exaggerating, you'll be hard pushed to find any artist with the strength of voice and character, the talent and classic originality that is found here.
If you like your pop and rock, mixed with a bit of new funk and interchanging melodies, you'll really enjoy this album.
There just aren't enough songs to tide us over for the next eagerly anticipated album!
