If you haven’t heard of Anastacia where have you been? When Anastacia burst on to the scene just a few years back, her combination of light rock music and unique rustic voice saw her dominate the charts. With her Kick ass albums being so popular, many, including myself, wondered how the new album would compare.
The self titled album ‘Anastacia’ is every bit as good as the first; in fact I would go so far as to say I prefer this album.
The first release I heard from the album was ‘Left outside alone’ early this year. The opening 20 seconds to the song is uncharacteristic of Anastacia’s previous work, however after the break she soon sets about stirring her familiar voice to a very catchy, mild rock, song.
‘Seasons change’ the first track on the album is contagiously enjoyable. On first hearing the track I was unsure as to if I liked it, but after listening to the album I couldn’t help but remember this one particular track, and although I couldn’t pin point why (as the others were better) but this was the one that stuck on mind.
‘Time’ is perfect for her unique vocal styling and is very easy to listen to. ‘Sick and Tired’; On the release of this single rumours sparked as to the inspiration to this track, only to be quashed by Anastacia in her interviews that the track wasn’t written because of one person in particular. Here she collaborates with a none accredited artist to create an unusual mixture of vocal talent, and seriously works well.
‘Heavy on my Heart’ is my favourite track of the album. This song really stretches the singing abilities of Anastacia and really demonstrates the power of her voice along with a great backing group and really down-beat song. This puts Anastacia on a diva level.
‘I do’ and ‘Pretty little dum dum’ are not my favourite tracks in honesty, but they are listenable all the same and have even caught myself singing along (which I do quite frequently) similar to tracks on her first album these are crossing the borders between Rock and Dance.
‘Welcome to my truth’ is currently doing well in the charts. Not having quite the success of her other releases from the album, this is by far one of the best written on the album. The lyrics are more poignant and the song is more unique than other songs out in the charts at the moment.
‘Sexy single’ is the only song on the album I would choose to replace; the singing and the arrangement are not nearly as good as the others on the album. This is quite a disappointing effort.
The albums last track ‘Maybe Today’ is a fabulous piece of music which features some very poetic lyrics. The Gospel styling ensures a big finish. Well worth the wait!
The album as a whole is far superior to some of the others out in the charts at the moment. Anastacia is as beautiful as she is talented and an inspiration to all, after over coming a number of challenges to get to where she is now.
I would recommend anyone who hasn’t got the album yet to give it some thought as this really is one album you can repeatedly listen to and in any environment, whether you’ve got guests around and you want some background music or playing loud in the car on the way to work, wherever you are this is just the album.
