This was Metallica’s first album with new bass player Jason Newsted, not that you would notice. The production on this album is appalling with poor Jason’s bass buried in the mix. However, it is still a Metallica album so if you are prepared to put up with that then there are some good songs waiting for you. The opener, Blackened starts off with backwards guitars and then flies into a rant about nuclear winter. The song also includes the finest lead work ever played by Kirk Hammett. Lawyers then come in for a pounding on the title track, which is fine by me. If there’s one criticism of this track, and a lot of the album as well, is that it really shouldn’t have been one song, it sounds like three songs stuck together. Three good songs though. …And Justice For All is an album of long songs, only two are under 6 minutes and none are under 5, it’s not an album for people with short attention spans but if you have the patience and can tolerate the production it’s well worth getting. But if you’re only experience of Metallica is with their latter albums and you want to see what they were like during the thrash days then try Master Of Puppets first.

Advantages: It's Metallica, quite simply. Amid much criticism from the American public in their early years they still knock out such fantastic, original tracks. Well worth purchasing Disadvantages: Bass is too quiet depending on how you like your metal but doesn't do much to spoil sound
Advantages: This album rocks, the artwork rocks and the long tracks rock. Awesome Disadvantages: To Live is to Die only lasts 9.49, They hardly play any of this live.
