And The Angels Wept - Ashes

Advantages: great value, loads of great songs
Disadvantages: could have been longer... supppose you can never get enough of thi kind of music

...Ashs' latest album, FREE ALL ANGELS is solid class. After thinking their best had gone in the form of Nu-clear sounds and 1977 i was mistaken! This album it brilliant! An excellent indie rock album right through. Its a bit quicker than the others and has a lot more potential hit singles in the form of 'Cherry Bomb' 'world domination' and 'shining light'. There is a real Indie revival with this album being one leading the way along side FEEDER, OCEAN COLOUR SCENE and STEREOPHONICS (Sort of) I think this is the album of the year so far, i may be mistaken but for now FREE ALL ANGELS will be spending the next few weeks in my hifi. If you like ash this is a must but even if you dont GET THIS!!!... Read review

Advantages: Has some catchy songs on the first half

...Meltfown is an album in which Ash make another attempt to make a heavy rock sound. While the album has its postive side, it lacks some of the better moments of the albums 1977 and Free All Angels. It begins with the title track Meltdown, which shows promise, with the first half of the album being the makings of a strong collection of songs. Evil Eye stands out in these songs, while Orpheus continues in the vain Burn Baby Burn in being a stomping pop rock song. Starcrossed is the only song on the album which uses the poppy older style of Ash, but after that song much of the album is forgettable, with the songs being unable to keep the users attention. However, album close Vampire Love does improve, but the while the album is by no means bad, it is not Ash's best... Read review

Advantages: Fantastic album!

...Definitely the best album so far from Ash, it is a marked improvement on 1999's 'Nu-Clear Sounds'. The album has a happier, more optimistic, upbeat vibe to it which makes it ideal for playing on a sunny summer day. There are about 10 stand out tracks out of the thirteen, any one of which would make it to the chart if released. Also on the limited edition version (which has limited edition packaging) has an excellent interactive element which is worth looking at. After one listen of the album the single Shining Light sticks in your head all day! It is a great comeback for the band, and definitely a contender for the best album so far this year! Buy it now!...
