Advantages: Nice taste. Post packaging!! Disadvantages: It don't come cheap!
When it comes to margarine, I normally just go for the cheap shops own brand. But, when recently shopping in ASDA, I decided to upgrade to a more 'posher' brand, and opted for Filippo Berio Olive Spread. Well, there was a reason I decided to buy this. And the reason is because they were giving away a 100ml bottle of their olive oil.
Anyway, for a 500g tub of this spread I paid £1.44. It's certainly not one of the cheapest brands on the market, but you get what you pay for! I've noticed with the cheaper brands that there's a bit of a bland taste to them. At least with the more expensive brands you do get a good taste to them. However, it's the first time I've ever tried this, but was looking forward to trying it!

Filippo Berio Classic Pesto
Pasta is such a wholesome and versatile ingredient to make a meal with. Go into any supermarket and you will see rows upon rows of various pasta sauces from various companies and most of these will make you a delicious meal in a relatively short time period. However something that is often overlooked as a pasta sauce is Pesto. It comes in many varieties although the variety that I am reviewing here is the "standard" green pesto, this one from Filippo Berio.
The 190Gr glass jar that I am reviewing contains: Fresh Ligurian Basil (32%), olive oil composed of refined oils and virgin olive oils (23%), peanut oil, grana padano cheese, cashew nuts, potatoes, salt, sugar, pecorino cheese, pine kernels, extra virgin olive oil, garlic and acidity regulator E575. another thing to mention is that the website lists ...
Advantages: high quality, easily spreadable, good nutritionally compared to rivals Disadvantages: It's not butter!
I was brought up to be prejudiced against ?buttery? spreads. Ours was an all-butter family and staunchly so; something to do with not wanting to return to the hardships of wartime butter-rationing so I was told at an early age. Like most people, however, I have tried a number of substitutes over the years, lured by the claims of lower fat or more recently reduced cholesterol. But whenever I see a sunflower on a tub of margarine I still hear a small voice saying that sunflowers should be in the flower garden, not on the dining room table!
Perhaps this actually encouraged me to become a relatively early user of olive oil both for cooking and for salads. Long before I had heard of the health benefits of a Mediterranean diet, I had started using Filippo Berio olive oil and Extra Virgin olive oil, and had stayed fairly loyal to ...
