The sugababes return with an all new line up and new record label. After their initial album 'one touch' siobhan from the group felt it was time to part from the girls. Making an opening for the thrid member of the group "enter heidi".
1. Freak like me This track samples itself from two songs, lyrics from Adina Howard "freak like me" and the background from Gary Numan’s ‘Are Friends Electric? This track just had a certain appeal to it and was a nice introduction to the public of a new member.
2 .Blue I have to say this is my least favorite track on the album as in my opinion doesn't showcase the ladies voices and seems to be one of those tracks that fades into the background rather than draw you in.
3. Round round This was released for the film "the guru" and had amaing chart success. I believe that the verses in the track give more of an indication to the ladies voices and own unique sound. For instance Heidi sings a very slow verse towards the end of the song, Mutya's lyrics just seem to be sublime
& her voice just compliments the lyrics and finally Keisha just has an incredible voice period.
4. Stronger I really like the beat to this track and has a much more serious tone to the song. This song i think has a very strong message which is that having belief in yourself can be a source of empowerment.
5. Supernatural More of an upbeat song and really funky beat to it. This song always makes me want to dance and just have fun. The music attracted me more compared to the words as it just has some quirkyness to it.
6. Angels with dirty faces The video of this feature the powerpuff girls, i think that they were featured as a result of a film. The video felt like an episode of the cartoon just in music form rather than a dilog between characters. The track isn't bad and what really impressed was the fast singing of the lyrics.
7. Virgin sexy Strange sounds and slow beat. Its the first time heidi sings the first verse. The lyrics are echoed on this track. Its not incredible but i ilke that it is different and just not your usual style of song.
8. Shape Cover of sting. I really enjoyed watching the video to this as it had a creepy fancy dress feel to it. The video just stood out & i think still remains different. What really impressed me was the fact that they used computer generated butterflies to cover the girls body (butterflies acted like a dress). V.mysterious video. I generally like the song before i even heard the girls take on the song. The lyrics are simple yet just very thought provoking.
9. Just don't need this I can't say i am a fan of this song, it has an old style to it and just doesn't suit the ladies. I applaud them for experimenting with different styles of music as it shows that they aren't affraid to try anything once and am willing to push the boundries of music a bit further.
10. No man no cry Its an okay track its not great but its listenable. It feels like a current rnb track of todays artists e.g. jamelia. Its not that i don't enjoy hearing them but i didn't really expect one these tracks on this album.
11. Switch This track instantly captured my attention with the music, lyrics aren't bad but the girls have done better. The song focuses quite alot on the beat of the song as the lyrics manage to hit the beat of the track which is good.
12. More than a million miles (Keisha's rap) i just want to say what was she thinking!!! She should stick to singing as she just can't rap. If they were to bring in another artist to rap i am sure that would have worked better. As with the right artist the rap could have been pulled off (lyrics aren't all that strong with the rap).
13. Breathe easy (acoustic jam) This is a great chillout song. I really like the fact that they chose to do it in acoustics (as i really like songs in acoustics used correctly of course). The track just pulled me right in as it reminds me of what i thought & believed when i was younger. It really helped me to calm down and reflect on what i have been through (granted i haven't been around for long). The lyrics just work so well, they just flow on from one another so gracefully. This trully showcases the voices of the girls and shows how diverse they can be.
14. Round round (alternative remix) I only like remixes when they are done right but this was just plain bad. Slow voices on an upbeat track??? The voices also make the track feel so monotonus and makes you wish it would just end.
All in all this is a really good follow up by the girls. A side from the covers that people may have a problem with, i think they have definately made a good follow up album. The new line up and move to a record label seems like a fresh new start.
