Classic Dio
Review of Magica - Dio by rusty_angel

Advantages: Dio has returnd to his classical sound and lyrics
Disadvantages: today Dio's older than in 1983, so he's not as good as then

...I don't know if you have, but i've been waiting for that for many years. Of course, I loved 'Angry Machines' and 'Strange Highways', but I missed those classical DIO's songs like Holy Diver, Rock'n'Roll Children... You know all those song as good as I do, I suppose. I didn't think it could repeat again. I've got used to new DIO sound (it was great, too, wasn't it?). But here it is! Completely classical, absoulutely new, and fully conceptual album from Ronnie James DIO! I tried to find any weak track but I failed. There are only two negative points. The first (and the worst) - Ronnie, unfortunally, doesn't get younger, so his vocal is not as good as it was twenty years before. But, anyway, his voice is still one of the best on hard rock/heavy metal scene, in my opinion. And the second - track Annica (an excelent instrumental composotion... Read review

The bridge between Progressive and Metal
Review of Long Live Rock 'n' Roll [Remastered] - Rainbow by chaosmongers

Advantages: Quality, Power
Disadvantages: Some weak tracks

...Whilst Deep Purple produced some absolute classics with both Ian Gillan and David Coverdale, at times the imaginative songwriting spark just didn't appear, especially in the later years. Long Live Rock and Roll is RAINBOW at the peak of their creativity - just as maybe MACHINE HEAD was for Deep Purple. Whilst the 1970's seemed to get bogged down with overly long progressive rock epics, and before the NWOBHM took a real hold - a bridge between the two was needed, and this album was it. Taking the 70's guitar feel of classic Purple, adding a touch a classic/progressive rock influence, and bundled into one neat package by legendary producer Martin Birch (who later produced the Dio/Black Sabbath classic HEAVEN AND HELL, as well as the best of the IRON MAIDEN albums) The title track is classic Blackmore/Purple - catchy riffs... Review Of - Cross Purposes - Black Sabbath - Wot No Ozzy
Review of Cross Purposes - Black Sabbath by rocking

Advantages: Good Set
Disadvantages: No Ozzy

...Another live Sabbath set this time with Ronny Dio singing. Although he doesn't have quite the same raw vocal power as Ozzy or the stage presence he manages to pull off the songs on this CD pretty well. Time Machine, I Witness, Psychophobia, Cross Of Thorns & Headless Cross are all post Ozzy songs. The older songs on the CD are Children Of the Grave, Into The Void, Black Sabbath, Wizard, Symptom Of The Universe, Paranoid, Iron Man and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. The CD is available on its own but is also available with a video with a couple more songs from the set added. This should be the one post Ozzy item in your collection as it's interesting to see how another singer performs classics like Black Sabbath and Paranoid.... Read review
