This is the 3rd concept album by Roger Waters based on George Orwell's outstanding novel 'animal farm' where he classes humans into groups of animals of course only pigs, sheep and dogs are used in the album which can at times be frustrating because this album had the potential to include ... Advantages: Contains those great 60's/psychadelia keyboard mixes and melodies Disadvantages: Seems too short in my opinion the closing and opening tracks bearly reach over a minute, and 'dogs' just drags on unfortunately
...classes humans into groups of animals of course only pigs, sheep and dogs are used in the album which can at times be frustrating because this album had the potential to include loads more tracks based on most of the other animals such as cats. The ANIMALS album was made after 'wish you were here' which was a Gilmour/Waters partnership although on ANIMALS gilmour only contributes to one song 'dogs' which can be considered a blessing to some because ... ...seen.
ANIMALS is a typical 5 track, Roger Waters album, and allthought the music is groundbreaking some may not be as satisfied with a £10 purchase on a 5 track album where 2 tracks bearly reach over a minute each. The cd can be bought cheaply on amazon brand new for a total of £7 usually,i would avoid ebay due to the amount of copy's and international versions of the album it will be rare to actually obtain the original album.

Advantages: It's Pink Floyd! Disadvantages: It's Pink Floyd- there are no disadvantages
...start with Pink Floyd - Animals - for 3 reasons
1 - I find Album reviews easy to write
2 - Animals only has 5 Tracks - a good way to get back in the flow
3 - It's Pink Floyd!! Who have now become somewhat of an obsession of mine!
Without further ado...
I was introduced to Pink Floyd by a friend. They became his obsession. He found their music amazing and better that the shit ... ...The Basics
Animals is only a five track CD. But not five "normal" tracks, it's five tracks of Pink Floyd! 3 of which exceed 10 minutes - so it is good value for money before anyone snubs the 5 track-ness of the album.
Tracks:
1 - Pigs on The Wing pt 1 - 1:27
2 - Dogs - 17:06
3 - Pigs (Three Different Ones) - 11:24
4 - Sheep - 10:26

Released on January 23 1977 Harvest Records (yes nearly 30 years ago!) it was ...

Advantages: Musically the best Floyd album Disadvantages: Not easy-listening
...that the Floyds' 1977 album Animals was a direct retort to the Pistols and their sensationalism, others might say it was a natural progression for the songwriting of Roger Waters - having explored madness and greed on their opus Dark Side of the Moon; distrust of the music industry and odes to his acid-fried companion Syd Barrett on Wish You Were Here; it seemed like a natural step for Waters to turn his scouring eye out upon the world in general.
... ...and closing chapters.
Musically, Animals is divine, innovative, and wide-reaching. David Gilmour is at the peak of his powers with note-perfect guitar work and fantasically unconventional chord sequences which somehow, inexplicably, work perfectly. Even the inconsistent Rick Wright plays keyboard delightfully throughout, augmenting Gilmour in the slower instrumental segments perfectly. Even Waters' slightly bunged-nose-sounding vocals seem to fit ...

Advantages: Dogs is a song with exceptional guitar playing and lyrics Disadvantages: Some of the other songs are a bit irritating in places
...Classifying various sterotypes as different animals you have the "Dogs", "sheep" and "pigs".
The three categories mentioned above are encased within two short acoustic songs that lead you into and out of this alternative look at society.
Dogs is a very long song and contains some remarkable guitar harmonies by Dave Gilmour - Sheep irritates me a little and is also long but the lyrics are thought provoking - Pigs is nearly a laugh, but really a ... ...is quite a good album but not as good as some of the other Pink Floyd creations.
I don't wish to take lyrics out of context but here is a sample.
Dogs - you gotta sleep on your toes and when you're on the street you gotta be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed.
Sheep - Meek and obedient you follow the leader down well trodden corridoors into the valley of steel
Pigs - Ha Ha! Charade you are, you're nearly a laugh but you're really ...

Advantages: Another superb Floyd Album Disadvantages: Nothing
I first heard the music from this album on a bootleg mono cassette from a concert in Manchester. You Gotta Be Crazy became Dogs and a particularly vicious Raving and Drooling was toned down to become Sheep.
It was advertised with a giant flying pig over Battersea Power station.
The concept is that people can be categorised as Dogs , Pigs or Sheep and this is one of the better latter Floyd albums. Even though all the tracks are quite long (barring ...
