overblown arrangements, hackneyed material, and singers sight-reading music they don't particularly like and making lame attempts at singing in English. With all her integrity, Anne Sofie von Otter would never do such a thing, and she hasn't here. This disc is a personal, eclectic mix, with the mezzo-soprano sounding sincere and approachable by sticking to the lower end of her range using small-ensemble arrangements you might hear in an evening sitting around the fire. In fact, rarely has Otter sung with such warmth as in Pereic Moraeus's "Koppangen", accompanied by accordion, guitar, violin and mandolin. Not only is her English good but she seems to connect with the language emotionally. Amid the cosy, jazzy renditions of "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)" and "Silent Night", there are a few lapses into eccentricity, such as an atonal string ensemble arrangement of "White Christmas" that easily could have been done by Alban Berg, and some Nordic-language forays in which Otter seems to be getting in touch with her primitivistic Viking roots. With good taste displayed elsewhere, she's allowed. --David Patrick Stearns

When it comes to deodorant, I generally prefer roll-ons than sprays but, beyond that, my purchasing choices are generally dictated by which brand happen to be on offer at the time. No surprise, then, that this 'Daily Elements' Cool Air deodorant was picked up for 99p for a 50ml bottle, as a half-price promotion. Radox may be best known for their classic bath products but they have branched out into other areas of personal care and toiletries nowadays.
Packaging
The packaging is primarily white and has quite a large ball dispenser which means that the deodorant is dispensed quickly and easily in just a few rolls. Unlike some other brands, this one has the ball at the top rather than the recent trend of packaging deodorants in an 'upside-down' position with the lid at the bottom. Advantages: Great conservation centre, especially for otters. Disadvantages: You have to like otters, and hilly walks, to fully appreciate it.

I have had a few holidays in the Peak District, but despite the Chestnut Centre being well advertised in the area, I was in no hurry to visit it. This is because when I had seen ottersin captivity before, in various locations, they were only active briefly at feeding time and their enclosures stank of fish.
Then Morrisons gave us some Buy One Get One Free vouchers for days out, as a reward for shopping there, so me and hubby decided we would use one at the Chestnut Centre.
We were pleasantly surprised at the lovely time we had there!
