Advantages: Good for those who like something light to listen to Disadvantages: References are a bit dated, e.g. Barry Goldwater; uses one curse word, so parents be warned
...of.
"I Shall Be Free No. 10" has a loopy surreal feel to it, as he sings about shadowboxing, getting beaned in the head at a poetry reading, watching a monkey kiss a cat, and explaining himself by saying "It's just something I learned over in England"...and "Motorpsycho Nightmare" is essentially a five-minute "farmer's daughter" joke in verse.
Most of these aren't talked about much outside a small circle of true fans, but this is a good album to show those who dismiss Dylan as just a nickle-and-dime protest singer. He shows his range on this and three other albums from the pre-cycle mishap era--which was probably his most creative and energetic period as a singer and songwriter--and he isn't afraid to let a personal demon or two roam free across the musical stave. The title itself, ANOTHERSIDE, tells us what we're about to see: Dylan...

Advantages: A classic, for all the reasons listed below Disadvantages: Is more popualarist than earlier material
.... The VCS3 synthesiser was used to create the rich textures that dominate the album, and tape loops to give a slightly wacky and new edge to the music through sound effects, and also layer the ‘man in the street’ sound bytes that gave the album its character.

Advantages: Good songs, DRUNK, interesting break away from previous work Disadvantages: drunk, etc
...AnotherSide Of Bob Dylan is the rather poor title that the record company stuck on this Bob Dylan's fourth album. This album came out in 1964 the same year as it's preceding album The Times They Are A-Changin' yet it is remarkably different. The title is a poor one because this is so obviously showing anotherside of Bob Dylan to that seen in his first three albums.
The story of the recording of this album is one that is so utterly 'Dylan'. It was all recorded and done in one single night. The session was heavily fuelled by cheap wine. Dylan loved cheap wine, not sure why cheap wine rather than not cheap wine but he's full of quirks like that. And well I'll let the track by track review tell the story, all I'll say now is that it might be a good idea to get drunk yourself to listen to the album.. or even read a review of it, here...
