‘Emotion Pictures’ is a 40 minute visual insight into the working life of the band Silverchair during 1999. The video opens with a few excerpts from the studio when the band were recording their third album, ‘Neon Ballroom’ followed by the full video for ‘Emotion Sickness’. Another couple of minutes follow in the studio with the making of ‘Anthem for the Year 2000’ and then the video for the song. This song features the band performing in cool blue light, mixed with scenes of the actress from ‘Prisoner Cell Block H’ as an electronic robot deceiving the public.

The video then takes you on a short journey of their 8 month tour with photo shoots, fan meet and greets and an outdoor show in the snow playing ‘Madman’! The band then go on a walkabout around San Fransisco where they find their own album in a recycled CD shop!! During a radio interview in Las Vegas, Daniel begins to play an acoustic version of ‘Tomorrow’ but unfortunately we only get to hear the opening line of the song before we’re taken off to them building up for their next gig and performing ‘Spawn Again’ and ‘Satin Sheets’.

‘Emotion Pictures’ is an excellent but all too brief display of Silverchair. The 4 videos for their single releases (also including ‘Ana’s Song (Open Fire)’ and ‘Miss You Love’) are good to see but I can’t help thinking it could have included more of the studio work, live performances and Daniel chatting instead of short snippits here and there. Despite this, the video is still well worth a look for any Silverchair fan.
