This is my first CD review in my life, so please be gentle. I love the music Bryan Adams plays. I have most of his albums (1-2 missing only). Most of them I ordered from US the others got as a present from my husband. This one was a present as well. He knows I like to listen to his music. There was an outdoor concert in the end of June 2007 in Budapest. We brought our almost two months old son to it. We stayed away from the crowd and watched BA’s performance on the screen. It was really good. He had concert a few months earlier in Budapest but as I was pregnant I decided not to go. My son didn’t like loud things he kicked nervously, so I skipped. That was the occasion when I got this album as a present.
There were multiple releases of Anthology, mine was released in October 2007. It is a double CD so it took me two days to write this review. I listen to each song again and wrote my short opinion on it. I put a link on each songs end on its lyrics if you want to take a look at it. I know that some of my readers like his music some don’t. This is similar to the other products. I tried to write a prudent review, I hope you find it very useful.
This album is a collection of hits from BA’s work of his first 25 years. There are really frequently played hits and less known songs as well on this album. It is nearly 3 hours music on these two CDs so you get value for your money. I don’t know my copy’s price but you can get exactly this copy from Amazon for 27.89 pounds. I know it is not cheap but in case you listen to his music occasionally you need only this album to get a good selection of his best hits. All his famous ballads are selected and recorded on this album plus his most fascinating rock songs. My favourite ballad is Have you ever really loved a woman? My favourite rock is Summer of ’69. Take a look at the selection and decide whether this album is for you or not.
Disc: 1 1. Remember – text written by: Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance The opening song is from the year I was born (1978). It is an energetic opening of this CD and I like it but it is not one of my favourites. I enclose a link after each song where you can find the lyrics and there is also short audio available, not the whole song but helps you to decide whether you like it or not. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=2&lycris_song=46
2. Lonely Nights - Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance This song is from 1981. I like BA’s music very much but this rock song is neutral for me. I know it sounds strange, but I like it and I don’t like it at the same time. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=2&lycris_song=47
3. Straight From The Heart - Bryan Adams and Eric Kagna This song is from 1978 too. I think these kind of slow songs are BA’s strengths. It is a very catchy melody. I love this song. Although I don’t remember, I know that it reached the 10th rank on Billboard Hot 100. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=2&lycris_song=48
4.
Cuts Like A Knife - Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance My heart beats on the rhythm of this song. It is a good one! I enjoy listening to it aloud. It is the most popular song of the album Cuts like a knife released in January 1983. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=2&lycris_song=56
5. This Time - Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance I feel this song is closer to pop music than to rock. It is not my favourite one, but it is okay. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=2&lycris_song=57
6. Run To You - Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance This energetic rock music is from 1984. It was released on the Reckless album. It is definitely a catchy one. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=2&lycris_song=58
7. Somebody - Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance A catchy rock music from 1984 which is still very popular and is often played at BA’s concerts. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=2&lycris_song=158
8. Heaven - Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance It is a beautiful ballad has peaked to the top of Billboard Hot 100. It is a really melodious song. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=2&lycris_song=159
9. Summer Of '69 - Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance This song makes me shiver. I love this song. It is catchy I could listen to it whole day. I think even those know it who listen BA rarely. It is one of his most successful and brilliant songs. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=2&lycris_song=160
10. One Night Love Affair - Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance This is a good song but listening to it right after Summer of ’69 makes it weaker. I like its lyrics. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=2&lycris_song=161
11. It's Only Love - Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance This is a duet with Tina Turner. It’s quite a good rock song. It’s only love that expresses my feelings for this song. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=2&lycris_song=162
12. Heat Of The Night - Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance This rock is from 1987 released on album Into the Fire. I think it is quite a good one but not my favourite. It is good as background music. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=2&lycris_song=163
13. Hearts On Fire - Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance A catchy rock that makes my heart beat to the rhythm. Yeah, really good. It was released on Into the fire album as well. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=2&lycris_song=164
14. (Everything I Do) I Do It For You - Bryan Adams, Robert John 'Mutt' Lange and Michael Kamen Oh c’mon, you must know this song! It is his most known ballad, music of Robin Hood. In 1991 there wasn’t radio station that didn’t play this song at least once a week. Brilliant, love it. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=2&lycris_song=165
15. Can't Stop This Thing We Started - Bryan Adams, Robert John "Mutt" Lange A catchy rock that makes me sing it along with BA. It fills me with energy. It has great lyrics as well. Love it! http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=2&lycris_song=166
16. There Will Never Be Another Tonight - Bryan Adams, Jim Vallance and Robert John I think it is a cheeky song. I enjoy it very much, usually replay it (just like my other favourites). http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=2&lycris_song=167
17. Thought I'd Died And Gone To Heaven - Bryan Adams, Robert John This was the second most popular song after Everything I do I do it for you. It is not a ballad, not a real rock song, somewhere in the middle. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=2&lycris_song=168
18. The Best Of Me - Bryan Adams, Robert John "Mutt" Lange Do we get the best of him as the end of the first CD? I think it’s a good song to terminate the CD, but not his best ever. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=2&lycris_song=169
Disc: 2 1. Please Forgive Me - Bryan Adams and Robert John "Mutt" Lange I love this ballad of BA’s. I have some very pleasant experiences in connection with this song. Sorry, but I don’t want to share it with anyone. It has beautiful lyrics. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=170
2. All For Love - Bryan Adams, Robert John 'Mutt' Lange and Michael Kamen I fall in love when I hear this song. It is my second favourite ever. I like as these 3 men (Sting, Rod Stewart and Bryan Adams) sing together. All of them have extremely good voice, and together… I don’t find better word than brilliant. I know that this is a movie song, but it was a great hit as well. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=171 Take a look at the video as well. I love it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-AB7RJpOjY
3. Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman? - Bryan Adams, Robert John 'Mutt' Lange and Michael Kame This song was written for the movie Don Juan DeMarco. I loved the film and I love this song. Actually this is my very favourite song ever. This was the music on our wedding ceremony. I can’t imagine more beautiful lyrics than this one. It is very touching. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=172
4. Rock Steady - Bryan Adams and Gretchen Peters It’s a sexy live duet with Bonnie Raitt. It is not a well known song of BA’s from 1995 although it’s a good one. It is not a fast one, not a slow one. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=173
5. The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You - Bryan Adams and Robert John "Mutt" Lange This is a sexy rock. My heart beats on its rhythm. Love to listen to it aloud. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=174
6. Let's Make A Night To Remember - Bryan Adams and Robert John "Mutt" Lange Beautiful ballad from 1995 released on album 18 Til I Die. It was a great hit and it is still popular. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=175
7. Star - Bryan Adams, Robert John "Mutt" Lange, Michael Kamen A catchy ballad, love it very much. It has a very pleasant rhythm and nice lyrics. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=176
8. Back To You - Bryan Adams and Eliot Kennedy It was released in 1997 on MTV unplugged. It is a song between rock and pop for me. It is nice background music. It is a live recording. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=177
9. I'm Ready - Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance It is a ballad from 1979. It is not played frequently although it is a beautiful, outstanding song recorded live on the CD. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=178
10. On A Day Like Today - Bryan Adams and Phil Thornally It starts as a ballad then becomes faster a bit. Not my favourite but it is good for background music. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=179
11. Cloud Number Nine - Bryan Adams, Max Martin and Gretchen Peters It’s a catchy rock song. It is slow like a ballad occasionally then dynamic catching rock. I like it very much. It is a Chicane mix. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=180
12. Here I Am - Bryan Adams, Gretchen Peters and Hans Zimmer This was a song written for the animated movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. It is a beautiful ballad. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=181
13. This Side of Paradise - Bryan Adams and Gretchen Peters It is a kind of background music for me. It is not slow not fast. It was released on album Room Service in 2004. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=182
14. Why Do You Have To Be So Hard To Love? - Bryan Adams and Gretchen Peters It is a ballad released on album Room Service in 2004. Has nice rhythm but it is not so catchy like his other ballads. Why does this song have to be so hard to love? http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=183
15. Open Road - Bryan Adams and Eliot Kennedy It is a catchy rock song released on Room Service too. It is a nice one, I like it very much. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=184
16. 18 Til I Die - Bryan Adams and Robert John "Mutt" Lange
It is a catchy rock song which fills me with energy. I like to listen to it aloud and feel myself 18 till I die. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=185
17. When You’re Gone - Bryan Adams and Eliot Kennedy It is a duet with Pamela Anderson-Lee. I like this catching rock song listening aloud. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=186
18. So Far So Good - Bryan Adams and Robert John "Mutt" Lange My heart beats on this rock songs rhythm. It is so good! I love it. BA had an album with this title in 1993 but this is not a song from that album. This song was written in 2004 and released on this album in 2006. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=187
19. I'm Not The Man You Think I Am - Bryan Adams and Gretchen Peters This is an outstanding ballad of BA. If you listen to it on the radio I am sure you wouldn’t guess that he is singing it. http://www.bryanadams.com/index.php?target=archive,lyrics&lyrics_release=15&lycris_song=245
As you could see there are 37 hits on this album. The new songs on this album are So Far So Good and I’m Not The Man You Think I Am. The song When You’re Gone was a duet with Melanie C from Spice Girls, on this album BA changed his partner and sings it with Pamela Anderson-Lee.
To sum up, if you are a collector of BA albums, you have already this one. If you are not a BA fan but like his music, this album is a good choice, all his greatest hits are together. I like this album just like his other ones.
